View Full Version : Respectfully, could we please stop calling it "CP" or the C Princess?

There are SO many topics referencing the C Princess (for Caribbean Princess). For anyone new here, they might confuse "C Princess" for Coral Princess. I'm not even "new" and I get confused myself.

Excellent point. It's probably abbreviated because people aren't positive how to spell Carribbeann http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif (Same with "Med" instead of Medditterranneann.)

Can we call it the CarP? JK. It's just a mouthful to type, so to speak. I usually type it once in full and use CP from that point on.

Why don't we just keep abbreviating the Caribbean Princess (CP0 and just use the name Coral.

I've come to realize CP always means Caribbean Princess, but as I say...someone new to the board won't know this "rule" or "tradition." They may not even know the Caribbean Princess exists, if they are only booked on the Coral and are new to cruising. Cari Princess or some type of identifier, more than an abbreviation...would be better. Of course, I realize people will still use "CP" but if we could at least cut down on it, I think it would help. I speak from experience: I am going with a group of new cruisers (on the Coral) and I directed them here. They would think the Coral had a giant tv screen on the deck, from the comments here about CP (Caribbean Princess).

I mainly am talking about the subject titles.

I agree..I've been getting confused..probably because I'm sailing on the Coral in a few weeks.

Maybe to even things out I should start posting questions about the Coral with CP in the title LOL

We could really confuse some people sailing on the Caribbean Princess if we started refering to the Coral as CP.

Example;

Is the indoor pool on the CP open 24 hours?
Isn't it a great view of the bow from the Horzon Court.
I can't wait to go through the canal on the CP.
When does the CP start its Alaska sailings.

Makes me want to post a few as topics to see the reactions http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I had wondered about the possible confusion or mixup between the two, but figured it would pass. Very good point and maybe something like CaribP or CaribPrin would be a happy medium. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif After all, it feels weird just calling her the "Caribbean" since that's technically one of the cruise destinations! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif Sheesh... you'd think the higher-ups at Princess could see the trouble this would cause us here on the boards and would have been a bit more cooperative finding a name or nickname that's easier to deal with!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif JK!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

FYI, I read and comprehend CP for Caribbean Princess and Coral for Coral Princess.

One of the reasons CP for the Caribbean Princess works is because it is really easy to write an awkward sentence otherwise.

"I am going on a Caribbean Princess cruise"

might mean

"I am going to the Caribbean on a Princess cruise ship"

New people will catch on. I am new, I did and DW says I am dumb as a post.

I disagree. Because new cruisers (who are booked on Coral) may not even know there is another ship that also begins with the letter "C."

I'm not saying you have to spell out "Caribbean Princess" every single time, but asking that you differentiate somehow in the thread title: Cari Princess, Cari P...whatever. Then in the message you could use CP if you wanted. It is just a suggestion, but I think it's a valid request.

Tahitian has been referred to as TP many a times.

Princess has internal two-letter designators for all of their ships. Someone should figure out what they are and we can abbreviate away!

Funny you should ask this. Earlier today, I was scanning this board looking for things on the Coral Princess. I saw some subject headers with CP in the title. Clicked on the thread and saw it was about the Caribean Princess. I was aware of both ships, but based on the header didn't really know which ship was being referred to.

I was thinking of starting a similiar thread as this one suggesting that in the subject line be a little more clear about which ship is being referred to. In the body of the message, go with whatever you want.

Do you think it's a good idea to get a petition up to Princess, asking them to in future build only one class of ship, with identical facilities? At least then we can ask generic questions about open pools, Horizon Court, larger balconies, best cabins and it won't matter which ship we're asking about.

Oh my think of the heated debate that would cause trying to pick which class of ships to build http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Princess is basically at that point! Save for Regal Princess and Pacific/Tahitian, all they have are Baby Grands, Grands, and Grander Grands as Princess puts it.

Sounds like this is the Princess Piano Line. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

If they combine the design for the Sun and Grand class ships, they can call them the Sand Ships. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

How did I just now find this Hilarious Thread?
Chris, you are far smarter than most Posts!
Well, today, the Texans are Way Ahead.
Dallas Fort-Worth (yensid1071) nearly nailed it. However, JSea wins First Price for accuracy.
The History is quite logical: Since the first was Sun, therefore SP, when her twin was born, CP makes sense (sounds like Sea). Can't use C again, so use the first 2 letters for Coral, hence CO. Next comes CB and that is nice because it puts it first before the other C's (in alpha order).
Dawn took the first 'D' (DP), the first 2 letters for Diamond = Di. R was taken by Royal Princess so Regal got GP (her Middle letter). Since the Sun got SP, when the Star came along, she got TP (her second letter). The next S got the first two letters, SA for Sapphire. Since TP was already taken by the Star, the Tahitian takes the first 2 letters, hence, TA. Starting to see a pattern? The Old Pacific Princess was PP so the New one is PA (first 2 letters, again). I know, it seems inconsistent - you have to think on it a while, then it will Finally make good sense.
O.K. now. Do you really think that everyone who reads this list - that JSea researched and was kind enough to type in - will SAVE it in their Princess file to refer to? I would certainly hope so. Would surely make it easier reading for all of us Cruise Crazies.
The acronymns are important for the limits of the computer fields. Some of us will continue to use the proper terms. We Former Military Types ARE the Gurus of the acronyms, you know.

Oh my Gosh!! What a hilarious post!! "CP" is much easier than typing out Caribbean Princess every time. And typing "Coral" is nice and short. Surely we can still differentiate this way!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I Have the Solution ! !

Drop the Princess part...just call her the Caribbean or the Coral.

Or better yet, book the PRIDE, CONQUEST, MIRACLE, or VALOR. No ambiguity there ! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Gary,
It's gonna be Bigger than a stick.

Kathi,
It's the CB!
The CP is the Sea Princess.

Sharon,
I know that you are boarding the CB, Right Now. However, you might be mistaken for living in Canada. US = United States. Although the state abbreviation is CA, it also stands for More Northernly Country. I think it is Maria you are related to. She went to Cancun and I am spamming her with TA Port stuff. Take good care of Stevers & Cici for me. I'm gonna go watch you on the CruiseCam now.

All in good fun, gang.

Actually, I've come over "to the other side" today, because another Carnival cruiser and myself are considering an early summer cruise 2005 to Alaska on a Princess ship. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And, Sue, guess who was instrumental in producing that interest? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

With 10 out of my 12 cruises on Carnival, I've always had a fantastic time on their ships (and, NO, I've never had to step over a drunk to get into my cabin and have never seen anyone puking in the elevators http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).

However, we, as Chris once mused several months ago, want to spread our wings a little and try another line. A cruise to Alaska seems like the ideal opportunity http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We can't simply refer to the Caribbean Princess as the Caribbean or someone would be confused about that too:

Someone might say:
"I am taking a Caribbean cruise"

To which someone could reply:
"Oh yes, lovely ship" or "Oh really" Where?"

The official Princess call letter deal won't work either because not everyone would have the secret decoder list.

Someone might say:
"Wow, that CB sure is something!"

To which someone could reply:
"Oh yes, lovely ship" or "Hey, I had one of those when I was a kid! Every time I turned it on it ruined our neighbors TV reception"

Or finally, someone might say:
"Man, that CP is a lovely ship isn't it? How about that Movies Under the Stars huh? "

To which someone who was paying attention to the context might reply:

"Oh yes, the Caribbean Princess is a beauty! I think she's much prettier than her old hag sister, the Coral Princess.....Hey!....Shhh!....Listen!...Is that a Citizens Band radio those people are using over there? I didn't know those would work here in the middle of the Caribbean Sea!"

Happy Cruising

OK, I'll weigh in.When we first booked the Caribbean Princess, I wrote it out every time on the Boards. Then I noticed that several posters referred to her as the CP so that's what I use when I refer to her after the first mention.I never even thought of the Coral Princess, probably because I wasn't going to be on her-and thought that her name might be written out since it's shorter. Now, with CP,TP,PP,etc, put them together with BB,BA,JJ,guaranteed B-AFT, and numbers for each one, we have ourselves a wonderful algebra equation! I'll be in a JJ-B-408 on the CaribP 9/18. Lynne
