I was on a Hal New Year's Eve cruise a few years back and it was fantastic. The entire ship was engaged in festivities - party favours on each floor; lots of decorations and food and champagne! Your friend should have a wonderful time!

What was most amazing was the next morning there wasn't a fleck of confetti, streamer or balloon anywhere to be seen:) They must have worked all night because it was a total mess after midnight and the ship was definitely 'ship-shape' by morning!

I did a New Year's cruise with RCL. The whole ship was a big party that night. To start with, dinner that night was formal night and the desserts all had chocolate clocks and chocolate 2005's on them. After dinner there was all kinds of music, dancing, festivities, etc. At midnight they did the countdown on the lido deck and then had a midnight buffet for all of us new years drunkies ;) Also, it was a caribbean cruise and they parked the boat near enough to land that we got to watch some town's fireworks.

That was RCL, but my guess is that HAL probably does something fairly similar.

We've been on a number of New Year's Eve cruises on HAL and love them. They are always wonderful fun. It has always been formal dress with a great menu. Hats and noisemakers and all the festivity you'd expect.

The best ever was New Year's Eve aboard Rotterdam for Millenium New Years.......talk about a party to end all parties. We were back-to-back for Christmas and New Years and had the most amazingly great time.

And I agree with Rustaroo about being stunned they had the whole ship spick and span by early the next morning. The work those stewards have to have done is mind numbing to think about. Confetti streamers, balloons, glasses, dishes, food etc etc etc .....everywhere. And, like magic, no sign of any of it the next morning.

Even though I've never rang in the New Year on a HAL ship, I had a great time on my last holiday cruise (QE) It was exactly the same ... parties everywhere ... captain counting down the seconds ... very festive atmosphere on board.

I'd join ya if I could get away with it :D

We've not been on a HAL ship for New Year's Eve, either, but did welcome in the new milennium aboard the Renaissance R7. There's pictures of the party here (http://vquill.com/gallery/R7.html), if you scroll to the bottom of the page...
