Just off the Golden Easter week and have decided to book the Southern Caribbean for next Easter. Feel certain I should be able to get less expensive air to San Juan than what Princess wants to charge us. ($671 from Cleveland) Any suggestions,, has anyone done this recently? Appreciate any thoughts.

Just keep on trying, but don't be too optimistic. Round trip to San Juan is SO high during high demand times. Just did the So. Carib over Easter this year and got $239 round trip per person by keeping a steady eye on Travelocity and Expedia.

Moretennis4me,

What dates are you looking at for next year? It appears that airfare from Cleveland to San Juan, via United or AA, is less than $500 p/p right now.

Also, if it is not too far of a drive for you, check out the airfare on Spirit Air from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) to San Juan. They usually have the best prices.

Don't forget to check out of Akron-Canton also. We sometimes get better air fare that way.

As suggested in previous replies, check often. Keep in mind that airfare is released for sale to the general public 330 days prior to the flight. So, count back 330 days from your return flight date. That's the first day you can purchase tickets.

Recently, I have used the following site to check prices, www.qixo.com, (http://www.qixo.com,) and then gone directly to the airline's site to see if I can book it cheaper. I've also added the search at www.sidestep.com (http://www.sidestep.com) to provide another comparison.

Regarding flights to San Juan, in general. There are a limited number of flights arriving each day. With the cruise lines blocking off a lot of the available seats, you probably shouldn't wait hoping to get a better deal. Be prepared and start looking 330 days out. Then book the flight as soon as you find something reasonable.

Good luck.

Future airfares are going to depend on what happens with the gas/oil prices more than anything. Just keep checking and when you find a price for around $300, decide whether you want to take a chance prices will drop lower, or whether paying a little extra is worth your peace of mind.

quote:
have decided to book the Southern Caribbean for next Easter

We flew home on Easter Sunday after 15 days and had no trouble getting good flights 10 months out. Prices went up continually after that. Talked to many who were only on for 7 days and they said it was horrible getting good flights to San Juan over the Easter period and would never go there at that time again. I'm sure there were many others that had no trouble but it is something to think about especially if you can go earlier or later.

Note we paid $200 pp more for the same room for the 4/4 cruise than for the 3/28 cruise just because of Easter. Originally 14 months out the fares were the same but the 4/4 fares did not drop like the ones for 3/28 did on balconies. Our friends got their rates for an inside JJ decreased about 6 months out but by 4 months their rate had increased for that week only by 125%!

Future cruises:
Sept. 04 Star Princess x 2
Jan. 05 Diamond Princess
July 05 Star Princess
Aug. 05 Star Pincess

Definately keep your eye on expedia, travelocity and orbitz. My wife noticed on orbitz one day that the fare from Cincinnati to San Juan droped by $300! By the time we went back it was down another $150, but it just as easily could have gone back up! Check is often and you will usually land a good deal. Easter, however, is always a little more expensive!

We got a rate of $400 per person for Memorial Day week--from St Louis, non-stop/direct, and for the times we wanted. Booked through CheapTickets.com.

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. I am going to start checking right away beginning of May and will book it if it looks good. I waited this year until the last minute for FLL thinking the prices were going to get better and they never did. Was biten by the high airfare bug. YUK.
