Indulge me with a little self-pity, for I had to cancle an upcoming cruise today, thus leaving me cruiseless! I don't know if I can stand this.
The wife and I had booked a charter for a 10 day cruise in Hawaii this November, but she's starting a MFA program in the fall and for some reason, doesn't think she can take 2 weeks away from the classroom. *muttermutter* So, we canceled the cruise.
I've been seriously considering going on another solo trip (don't tell the wife) as I had such a wonderful time last November, but I think she'd kill me. :p
Anyone else in this same sad situation? I'm having severe withdrawals.

IGGI,
I am sorry about your change in plans :(
I know it must be a big let down after the excitment of booking it in the first place.
When is the earliest her schedule will allow her to be free so you can reschedule your cruise?
I personally would say book a solo cruise. But then upholding domestic harmony was never really one of my strong points *LOL* So you may want a more reliable opinion *LOL*
Just teaseing :)
I am sorry about the change in plans though, and understand your dissappointment.
Hope you can both get away for another cruise really soon :)

I'm sorry you had to cancel your cruise. I know how disappointed I would be.
If I had to cancel my cruise....I would be so SAD! I do feel your pain...I hope you can reschedule it soon.

Bummer! But I applaud your DW for her desire to expand herself and obtain additional education. It will help pay for even more cruises in the future. Think of it that way! ;)

I share your pain for I too just recently had to cancel a much anticipated cruise. I found comfort though in the fact I have another one scheduled in a couple of weeks.
Why don't try booking another one; it sure eases the pain of a cancellation.

I am so proud of my wife for going to school for her MFA. She's been wanting to do this for a few years and I think it's great that she is following her dreams. I just selfishly wish that her dreams didn't involve our canceling a cruise! :D
Ahh well, we'll probably find a cruise or another trip to go on during her spring break in March. So, in a way, we've just extended the planning phase of the trip. I like planning and anticipating, so perhaps this is good.
dakrewser - thanks for the laugh of the day!
babyher - I love my wife AND I have to admit, the thought of another solo cruise is amazingly tempting.
user8 - want some company on your cruise that's coming up in a couple weeks? ;)

Nope. I'm posting using my account. I'll let you think about that for a little bit. :)

I don't think there is anything selfish about being disappointed that you have to cancel your cruise. I am sure she would feel the same way if the shoe was on the other foot. I am sure you love her and support her endeavor, but you are also human and feel disappointed
If waiting until March (as looooooong a wait as it may seem) means you can both enjoy a trip together . It just might be a good thing.
I wish you both well and hope you can come to a solution that you both can agree on :)

Although not in the same situation I empathize. That's why I act as dictator when it comes to family vacations. No democracy allowed. he he he

Iggi--
I'm so sorry to hear that you had to cancel your trip (and I know that they charge a hefty cancellation fee - which is a double whammy!) - but in the long term, I'm sure it will be for the best.
Consider joining us in January on Noordam - I'm sure we can find someone for you to share with so you won't be lonely ;)

Thanks Brian
Oliva's cancelation fee is really harsh. 180+ days out they keep $500 pp, so we're out $1000. I love traveling with Olivia, but their business practices really annoy me.
Ahh well, in a way, I think our not going is a good thing. I had grumbled from the very beginning that we weren't going to be cruising on HAL. Now we can book a HAL cruise! January on the Noordam sounds tempting. Heck, any cruise sounds tempting. I'll have to find out when her winter break is and start making plans! :D

Sorry you had to cancel your cruise. I know it is a big disappointment.
We had to cancel our cruise on the Oosterdam that sailed on 5/13 due to a health problem with my DW. We have another one on booked on the Zaandam in August so it isn't too bad.
Good luck and happy future cruising.

I'm so sorry you had to cancel your cruise. And I definitely understand since I should be at the airport right now waiting for a 7 a.m. flight to take us to Alaska for a cruisetour we booked last summer but we had to cancel a couple of weeks ago due to DH health problem. I think the only way I'm coping is that we had them transfer the booking to a canal cruise for the end of Sep so am busy planning that one. So definitely book another one as soon as you can!

Iggipolka - It is awful that you had to cancel the cruise. It will be worth it in the end. Are there any ships departing in your area that you could watch depart or arrive? Not sure if that would be torture or fun. That is how I am spending my next four + months. Today Maasdam is in Boston. Thinking about heading up (after softball and soccer games) to watch her depart.
SharonN - Hope health returns to your DH. Canal cruise sounds wonderful.
dakrewser - You are too funny!
