Booking thru a travel agent is better in my opinion

No I dont' think you are really late in booking a decent cabin for you, your DH, and your kids. but the sooner to do book, the larger choice of cabin, not that there is all that great of choice to begin with for quad cabins.

So when is the next cruise?

Do you think you could squeeze into a minisuite? I'm sure it depends on how old and what gender your children are.

If you can't get a quad cabin or a family suite, consider a mini.

Booking directly with Princess is better in my opinion. We have never found a TA that can get us a better rate or do a better job than I.

It takes time and knowing what to do so if you don't have the time go with a TA and hope they are the best.
