DD (age 8) is coming with us in Oct. for her first cruise with HAL. She went with us this past Feb. on RCI. I was just over on the RCI board and there was a question about minimum age for Portofinos. There is a minimun age.

Does anyone know if there is a minimum age for Pinnacle?

I just visited HAL website and it reads at the bottom "Available to all for a modest price". I don't remember seeing kids there last year.

She usually comes out with us to the nice restaurants at home. I would hate for her to miss out on this. I know there is a $20 charge per person and of course would expect to pay for that for her as well. I also expect that she would be ordering off the regular menu.

Thanks for any info!

I am not aware of any minimum age in the Pinnacle. I have seen young childern there on several occasions. On last years 62 day cruise we had a couple of young childern on board, I believe the youngest was 9 years old. They were in the Pinnacle with thier parents many times.

AFAIK, HAL doesn't have a minimum age requirement for the Pinnacle. We've discussed this on the board in the past.

Only you know your daughter and how well she will deal with a rather long-ish dinner. Some kids can't sit still long enough to down a sandwich; others thrive on fine dining.
I applaud kids who are able to rise to the occasion when out in public. Applause to their parents, as well.

No age limit and at 8 your daughter should be able to enjoy the adventure of fine dining and trying new things. Can be a time for a very special family memory on a family vacation.

Thank you everyone! She knows what is expected of her in an adult environment and acts accordingly.

I have seen children younger than that in the Pinnacle. There is a lot to choose from on the menu so she shouldn't have any problems with the food.

I know that there are a lot of people frequenting HAL who wish there weren't any kids onboard, including at the Pinnacle Grill... Sorry guys for the bad news, but...

HAL gave our family reunion group some kind of special deal for dining at the Pinnacle Grill for our upcoming trip (I didn't plan this trip--don't flame me please). That means Pinnnacle Grill is inviting a 2 year old, a 3.5 year old, two 5 year olds, a 7 year old, two 9 year olds, and a 13 year old and a 15 year old (more or less). HAL knows the age breakdown, so I guess the answer to the question is that they are actually welcoming kids.

Your child will be just fine and welcome.

Nothing to be sorry about. That's the way HAL is going ... they are trying to attract the family market with lots of deals for groups (reunions), special occasion celebrations (anniversaries and renewal of vows cermonies, etc.). It may be true that some people on this board would prefer if there were no kids on HAL sailings, but plain and simple ... that's just too bad. They'll have to live with it or try a new cruise line ... because HAL is becoming very, very welcoming to families and children ... especially on their shorter sailings and on their larger ships.

In my own case, because I am over 50 and have never had any children, I, too, would prefer as few kids as possible. Not that I don't like them, understand ... it's just that I am not comfortable with sailings that have an overwhelming number of children on them. So, I just plan my cruises carefully ... staying away from the larger (Vista class) ships, school vacation periods, and shorter (seven-day) sailings. So far this strategy has worked wonderfully for me, and what few kids I've encountered on my sailings have been of a small enough number that they are actually a joy to be around.

Have fun at the Pinnacle ... and on your cruise ...

I doubt that anyone here dislikes children per se, but there are many who disapprove of parents who abdicate their responsibilities. Rude, obnoxious behavior isn't restricted to any particular age group.

We have had the discussion with DD so that she know how important her behavoir is. She knows now where and when she can have fun and that there are places where she doesn't need to worry as much, such as the beaches on the islands and Club HAL. The discussion we had went along the lines of "there are some people who don't think children belong on the cruise and there will be others who will be very happy that you are there".

You will notice that I picked a line that does not have many children during a non school vacation week. :p

Actually, I hope you didn't make a mistake with that. Choosing a popular school vacation week would have probably been a lot more fun for her since she would have had loads of other children her age to hang out and play with. I think it's sometimes sad to see only a handful of children on a sailing, with them all hanging with their parents since there are few other children for them to have fun with.

For that reason, I think the holiday and school vacation period sailings are great for kids. They can have their fun ... laugh, play, be noisy ... and those stuffy older folks (like myself) who are not crazy about sailings full of children just stay away during those weeks. The boat is therefore full of parents with kids who don't mind the noise and confusion one iota.
