Has anyone got a copy of the Grapefruit Cosmo recipe that is used in the Martini Classes and in the Martini menu book? We loved it but can't seem to duplicate - got home without a copy of the recipes.

It's one of my favorite mixed drinks aboard damships. :) So refreshing!
I'll ask around. I think Christopher may know it. I know he asked for it aboard the Westerdam last year.

And, as strange as it sounds, the Cucumber Martini recipe?:p

Mmmmmm! The grapefruit/cran sounds yummy!
As for the cuke martini.... I made some cucumber vodka once and fixed a martini with great anticipation. Took one sip and threw it out! :o
Check out this site-

Vangogh will send you a free cd with oodles of exotic martini recipes. In the meanwhile, you can search their site.
(I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to martinis.... in New Orleans, we have a WONDERFUL place, The Bombay Club. They have a great martini menu!)
*edited to say that I have so many flippin' cucumbers in the garden, I might have to rethink that cucumber vodka!:) *

HI All,
Just got off Westerdam and this was my FAVORITE drink on the cruise. The last day we picked up a copy of the recipe from the martini bar, it is as follows:
2 limes (i think this reallyy means lime wedges... i didn't see them every use more than that and i had MANY of these!!)
1/8 grapefruit wedge
1.5 oz vodka
2 oz. fresh sour mix
1.5 oz cranberry juice
I asked the bartender and he said he was usiing citron vodka... also, very important to muddle the grapefruit and lime first!!
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tortugas....sounds like a great drink...I have a couple of questions....what's "sour mix" and what do you actually do when you "muddle" the grapefruit and lime?...can't wait to try this !! :)

muddling just means that you put the grapefruit wedge and lime in a glass (heavy) and use a little stick or the back of the spoon and mash them all together getting the juice etc out of the fruit, sour mix can be found in any liquor store, either powdered and you mix, or bottled!!!
will be making these for memorial day!!

You can make your own sweet & sour mix - it is really good(better than you can buy - this is the way HAL makes it). 1 cup of water, disolve 1 cup sugar and bring to boil. Add 2/3 cup fresh lemon juice and 2/3 cup fresh lime juice. Cool and use. It will keep in the fridge for at least a week.

Tortugas,
That is right on the money. My wife loved this drink on the "Veendam" at Christmas. The bartenders name was Bill Lee who has been with the line 25 or so years. He gave me a little hint on this. Use everything you said and add just a touch of simple syrup.
1 cup sugar and 1 cup water. Boil til sugar is dissolved. remember...just a touch.
