View Full Version : What else is changing on the Golden Princess?

According to Princess' website, a new giant TV screen will be added to the Golden's pool area so it has a similar set-up to the Caribbean Princess.

Has anyone heard of what other changes are in store for the Golden, if any? Is it scheduled for dry dock and changes to it's interior soon?

Thanks! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I don't think that the screen will be installed during the upcoming dry dock, at least that's how I understood the announcement on board. No mention was made about making changes to any other areas of the ship.

Chris, as usual. You are right.
I love SWestern food but I think STerlings is supposed to be much nicer.
Looking forward to our cruise on the Golden in June!

The Sterling Steakhouse on the Caribbean Princess was awesome. If the change is made on the Golden, be sure to make reservations early. Once word got out on the CP that the Sterling Steakhouse was very good, it was nearly impossible to get reservations.

As for the "movie under the stars" screen...I'm not sure about the Golden but I read that the Grand will be having it installed the 1st week of November. I guess this doesn't really answer your question, but maybe the Golden is slotted for the fall as well?

The last I heard on the big screen TV was that they hadn't fully analyzed the structural issues as of yet. I did hear, however, that it will be installed in the Neptune Pool area and the Calypso conservatory area will retain the magradome.

That's great news!

I spent a lot of time in the conservatory and was concerned about that. I think it's one of the best spaces on the ship.

I wish I'd kept it! There is a selection of appetizers and salads to start with. Caesar salad was very good, as was the shrimp cocktail. You can choose from rib-eyes, small or large filet, porterhouse, or prime rib carved at your table. Side dishes are limited and include baked potatos, mushrooms, and vegetables. The chocolate pecan pie for dessert is to die for.

Make your reservations fast! They can only serve about 60 meals per hour because the kitchen area is very small. That's why you might see empty tables, but cannot walk up and get a reservation.

I think it goes in a week from Saturday. It will be spiffed up before redeploying to San Juan. The crew are really looking forward to the break.

We aren't able to do the Golden's Southern Caribbean itinerary this summer and were hoping to do it in the summer of 2005 but noticed that the Golden isn't going there then. In fact, I can't see that any Princess ship is doing the southern Caribbean from San Juan in 2005. Is that true?

Kylie - While we were on the Coral 2 weeks ago, they had the Europe 2005 Summer schedules out. They're now on the Princess website. The Golden will be doing 10 night cruises around the British Isles & "Western European Capitals" in addition to a few other 10 night itineraries.

All 3 Grand Class vessels will be in Europe for summer 2005. The Star will do the Grand's Baltic itineraries and the Grand will do the Med. I think.

I saw that information on the Princess website and also tried to find which ship will be doing the southern Caribbean in summer 2005 but couldn't find one.
