We are thinking of doing back-to-back cruises on the Westerdam this fall. I don't want to pack too heavily.....am I correct in thinking that there is no self-service laundry on Westerdam? Does anyone know if they have some kind of laundry special late in the week? Or how much is costs to have laundry done? Thanks!

You are correct, no self service laundry :)
On the Zuiderdam they offered a laundry bag filled for $12.00, with a day and a half return time. I was able to roll up the clothes, stuff them in the bag and get 4 outfits each for me and DH, I thought that was pretty reasonable :)

Also check to see if there is a laundry special. Sometimes the ships will offer a special of unlimited laundry for a certain price for the week.

We got excellent service on the Westerdam in Oct. We used the laundry bag $12 special and were amazed at how much we could stuff in. Was returned timely. Since you are doing BtoB will really save on packing.

We were on the Westerdam in Feb. -did the laundry in a bag for $12.-both lights and darks. I gave them in the afternoon, and they were returned the next morning (in the cabin after we returned from breakfas, nicely folded, and nightgown hung on hanger, etc.) Well worth the money -

You can put the dirty clothes on the shower floor when you shower, and dance around on them. When you hang them out on the balcony, be sure to use the clothespins with strong springs, as it can get really breezy out there!:)

Not anymore - it's a 'fire hazard' now

Your room steward is now supposed to check your balcony each evening when he comes in to make up your cabin for the night to make certain that nothing has been left out on the balcony.;)

Just returned from Alaska Oosterdam. We used the $12/bag laundry service twice. We phoned that our laundry was ready to be picked up before 9am in the morning. Although there is supposed to be a 48 hour return time, both of the times we used the service, our laundry was returned the evening of the same day we sent it out.
Please note the laundry bag measures approximately 18 inches long and 12 inches wide. By the time I finished rolling clothes to go into the bag, it looked like my size 18 body being squeezed into a size 2 dress. A superb way to cut down on so much packing, especially if you have to stay within the weight limits for airline baggage.

Thanks everybody! The $12 bag of laundry sounds like the way to go for sure....especially being Caribbean cruises....gotta like packing for summer!

Hi Shaco,
Were the shirts very crumpled when they came back? Or did they hang dry them? Thanks.

The $12 deal even includes tux shirts. Shirts come back pressed and if you asked for it, starched. On the Noordam, it took a full 48 hours for the service, so don't be surprised if it takes more than a day! But I figured it would have cost over $50 to launder what I fit in their bag.
Do note that this is for laundry only, not dry cleaning.
I did miss the laundry room for pressing, though. They offer pressing, but it's almost as much as laundry/dry cleaning.
