View Full Version : Bar Soap in the Bathrooms?

First timer on Oceania - what size is the bar soap in the bathrooms? I happen to despise miserly hotel bar soap that is a whisper, a suggestion, of soap - useless for hygiene, dissolves in a moment, impossible to handle.
We all know that more you pay for a hotel room, the larger the soap bar. Oceania seems to be a class act, I'm just looking for practical input in the field of bathroom soap.
Bar soap is my personal hang-up. If O's soap gets lost in the washcloth, I'm bringin' my own.

Unfortunately (?) we did not measure the soap size, but it was reasonably sized as far as I can remember. It was of good quality (in 2004) and "hand milled" in Europe, though not "known brand named" (not Bulgari, for example). They also give you nice bottles of gels, conditioners, etc., in plastic bottles (not pouches), but again not "known brand named".

Gosh, you mean you don't go around measuring hand soap? I'm shocked - shocked!
Thanks for the comments. I don't care about name brands, never have. I look only for good quality and, from what you've said, I can save the weight of a bar of hand soap for this cruise. Thanks.

before you measure the soap, you should first measure your hand. Then based upon your hand size, you can call room service to order the small, medium or large bars of soap!

I am looking at 2 bars of soap that I'm 99% sure came from the Serenity in Dec. They are substantial in size, about 3 1/2" long, about 2" thick, shaped like a fat oval pillow, weight 125 grams. Brand name is Claus 1887 Porto. Highly fragrant, labels read "Violetas Singelas" & "Savon a la Violette". I brought them home for my guest bath. I ALWAYS take my own Coast. :)

Wow, thanks for all the info. I figured out that 125 grams is 4.4 oz. and I'd be thrilled with a 3.5 oz bar.
DaBear - I like the way your mind works about soap and room service. Now my mind is running amuck about wondering if there's a pillow concierge onboard! Wa-hahaha!
All y'all have been great. Now I know that I'm in good hands (harumph!) with Oceania for my cruise and a big whew! for that. :)

Wow! Did I get up & take a stupid pill yesterday or what? Thanks Claudia for pointiing out the error. And I'm sorry Ruby for the wrong info. At least you all now know what kind of soap Crystal uses. :D

I knew when she said "Serenity" and "Bulgari" that she was back on the Symphony! What I like about these Oceania boards is that everybody is so nice. In watching the Celebrity boards about the captain who was terminated, the fur's been flying over there and it ain't pretty.
In November, when I come in from Cairo and Luxor to wash off the Egyptian dust with my Oceania bar soap, I'll remember your kind attention to my silly question.
Thanks, everybody.

Only I really was on the Serenity. And it was not a silly question.... just a silly answer. I type faster than I think. Hehehe ;)

Liv4cruzin,
Hoped to catch you on one of these threads. We are looking at Hotel Nena in Istanbul. How did you like it and any room suggestions if you liked it?
If you'd like to respond directly instead of in thread our email is greyb@bellsouth.net.
Thanks

I was keenly interested in your cruise list. I loved RVL and sailed on them until they pulled up the gangway for the last time. And Sitmar was great also. I could talk about the Yarmouth Castle and the Acropolis (Typaldos Lines) but that's showing my age!
I recently sailed on Saga Cruises, a UK proprietary. They bought and completely renovated the Sagafjord and Vistafjord and I was on the Vistafjord (now Saga Ruby, ahem!) last June to polar North. I booked O for South America/Cape Horn but when I realized that they don't set foot on Antarctica, I cancelled and booked the Istanbul/Singapore repo. I'll be back with Saga for Antarctica unless O can let us Zodiac onto the continent.
Only problem with Saga is that the Brits get free travel insurance, free transfers, "freephone" while we have to pay for all of that, and with our weak dollar, we Americans get killed on the prices - there are no deals to be had from Stateside. Oh, wait, I have to use the word "soap" to be street legal for this thread! Soap soap soap
I hope to become an Oceania fan - all I want is a small ship and a star to sail her by.
Happy sails, Becky.

This is funny -- -- I was just wondering about soap before I logged in to check out the boards.
I figured they would bathe us in milk and honey and use champagne for our hair, but that's probably not Oceania, I just think it is!

Apex Cruiser: I'll be happy to contact you directly about my stay at the Nena.
Saga Ruby: I've been cruising since my 16th birthday (1968) & worked quite a few years as a cruise only travel agent. You mentioned several ships that I've never even heard of (not that I know even most of them). The only thing I knew about Saga is that they got the Vista. & Saga. The perks they're offering to UK residents are unique & interesting. If only you could find a friend in the UK who could book an extra cabin on your behalf (& possibly receive the same benefits). Some of my favorite lines & ships are no more; but the memories are there forever & in photos for the time when my mind goes ;). O. made a great impression on me; & that $200 discount coupon they mailed me after I returned home is a burning a hole in my pocket. I'm already looking at the Regatta repositioning for April or Nov. '07. And I also wish you may happy sailings. (And should I mention "soap, soap, soap" again also?)
DanaDiane: I'm still looking for that milk & honey bath. Let me know when you find it.
