Do the rooms have irons in them or do you need to request one?
Anyone going on the Grand on the May 2nd or May 9th cruises? We are so looking forward to our back to back cruises!!!!!

On my 4 Princess cruises I can never recall being able to request an iron in your room, I believe you must go to the coin laundry on each floor and use it there (and it's wired into the wall, so don't plan on borrowing it in your room).

It is a fire hazard to iron in your cabin. The Laundry Room is quite pleasant and it will go very quickly. Do not walk all the way to the aft or forward if you are on the opposite end. Just use the elevator to go up or down (look at your little deck plan).

I am sooooo happy to see your question. I asked the same one not long ago because, this being my first cruise, I thought of staterooms the same as hotel rooms. And we all know hotels usually supply irons in their rooms.

When it was pointed out that irons are a fire risk, it made sense. I'm glad I asked before the trip--aren't you?

I will either bring wrinkle-proof things or be fashionably rumpled!

Enjoy your cruise--and keep asking your questions!

Downy Wrinkle Release is my best friend on a cruise http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

While I second the Downey Wrinkle Release, I am very glad for the laundry room and the available irons there. They did not have that option on my last cruise. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

What is Downy Wrinkle Release and where do you get it? I hate to iron (and my FI refuses to do it) so anything to help out would be great.

Also, in the past if you politely asked your cabin steward to iron an item or two, they have with no charge.

The other thing that I do for small wrinkles is I hang the garment on the bathroom hook. When we take showers, the steam dissipates the wrinkles! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Downey Wrinkle Release comes in a trigger spray and is available in the laundry products aisle of every supermarket. You spray an item lightly, kinda tug on the material, then smooth it with your hands and hang to dry (it's only very slightly damp). Really helps get out wrinkles, but doesn't quite eliminate the need to iron some items.

Another wrinkle-reducer is to place each [already ironed!] outfit on a wire coat hanger and cover with a plastic dry cleaning bag before packing in your suitcase. When you arrive, unpack and hang-- saves time and helps prevent wrinkling.

Consider taking along a small steamer and/or a plastic over the door hanger that holds several garments and place it inside bathroom door. Hang next day outfits on door hanger before showering.

Mary and Shelli--

Great tips and easy!!! Thanks.

I'll probably bring as small a bottle of the Downey, too.

I understand that irons are a fire hazard, but most hotels used those with auto off controls. I worry about people smoking in their rooms. Isn't that more of a fire hazard?

I've asked the cabin steward about irons. He said that he didn't know why I couldn't iron in the room.
