We will be in Istanbul for several days before cruise. DH is positive that I will buy something expensive in Grand Bazaar or someplace. How do you collect your VAT, since we will not be leaving from the airport?

In the market you will be doing mostly cash transactions and a great deal of friendly negotiating of the "best price". Their is usually no receipts.......Now shopping in tourist type stores or possible rug dealers is another thing.

My husband cannot wait to "haggle". I have been told not to "drool" over anything. Walk away, tell him I liked it and then ignore him. I get embarrassed when he haggles. He was just reading an article in ITN.
I am trying to save my $ for gold buying in Dubai gold souk.

There MAY be a VAT refund desk at the cruise terminal - I'm not sure. However, if you're purchasing something at a reputable shop (that includes the Grand Bazaar), they will give you a VAT refund form. If you're unable to collect your refund before leaving Turkey, it can be mailed to that return address and your refund will be credited to your credit card....
Happy Shopping!! :D

We filed the VAT form at Venice airport for expensive pendant purchased on Ponce De Vicchio bridge. Havn't seen anything yet; over a year ago.
Guess part of doing business in Italy Have rec'd all VAT refunds before this.
