I've been posting here for a while and had some great tips so I thought I'd share an experience that I think many of you may benefit from.

My sons PC was in-undated with pop up ads and stuff that got loaded on his PC that would open more pop up ads before we had a chance to close any. These were not really viruses but they made his machine 5 times slower and opened loads of windows. In truth, we really had pop-up-eye-ters and needed a cure.

I downloaded AD-AWARE from PCWorld download site - it's free and it was an instant cure.

If you've got ADS that pop up and then cause new pop-ups when you shut them down then this free software really does work.

Hope it helps some of you. PC WORLD site (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,7423,00.asp)

p.s. you may have to run it 2 or 3 times and sometimes after a reboot but it's quick software. The pop-up ad writers install stuff that tries to hide but in the end - ad-aware killed em all http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

Thanks for the advice. I've had a terrible time with pop ups over the last week or so and tried everything! I ran this adaware software three times and it looks like it did the trick! Thanks

Go to Google and download their toolbar. They have a popup blocker there that is really good. It should run together with your Ad-Aware and you'll be super protected. Mine has blocked 1447 popup attempts. You can tell it which site you want to block and which you don't. Just a thought.

All the best!

DH installed some program from AT&T worldnet that does the same thing, might be the same program. Isn't it heavenly to surf without all those pesky ads?

Here's another Spyware removal program I use in addition to Ad-aware. It is called Spybot S&D (search and destroy). By running them alternately about once a week I keep my system pretty clean from Spyware.

Another good idea is to make sure to install and run a firewall, especially if you have broadband (cable) internet connection. I run ZoneAlarm. You can check it out here.

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp

Both of these programs have a "free" version which is the one I use. You can also get additional protection with ZoneAlarm Pro which requires you purchase it.

There are also ways to set up your "Browser" probably Internet Explorer, to increase the security and reduce the number of spyware programs that end up on your computer. Check out the "Help" option and check the security setting under the options in IE.

Congress and various states are looking into laws to go after people who write and distribute this kind of software. I don't know if this link will be usable but it talks about the issue of spyware.

Does anyone have a simple solution to cut down on the spam. I get 50 to 75 junk emails a day. I am tired of it.
