What is the one outfit you have seen on formal night that you will never forget? Need a good laugh on what some still have in their closets.

A wedding dress on someone that was not just married. They must have needed a gown desperately to wear their wedding dress to dinner.

On our last cruise (Carnival) there were a couple of young men all decked out in tuxes with tails, tophats and canes. We thought they looked so dapper and they were having such a good time! We'll remember it mostly for their smiles and the smiles they put on the faces of others (ours included). They were part of a group of 10 or so and all of these young people (probably college age) were all gussied up and such a pleasure to be around. We were pleased to take pictures of their group for them - one or two with each of their cameras. They were clearly planning to have good memories of their cruise experiences.

There's a guy on the HAL board who wears Pepe le Pew slippers with his tux on formal night! Has quite a fun reputation among cruisers and crew.

In early October, a very ederly lady with a green sweatshirt with a sequined Christmas tree. My guess is she felt the sequins made it formal! Also saw a lady one evening that kept having to 'tuck' her huge breasts back into her inappropriately low cut gown that was several sizes too small. Every time she moved, one of her 'girls' would come flying out. She'd just flop in back in without missing a beat. I guess that would qualify as a wardrobe malfunction!

On the Regal just recently, we had a very interesting wwoman at 2nd seating. Several evenings she serenaded everyone as they left the dining room with opera. (sorry, I don't know what an individual peice should be called). All of her outfits were quite interesting and very colorful. She sang any chance she got and had a good voice. She was having a great time.

On our spring break cruise on the Grand Princess there was a group of young men from the Navel Academy who wore their dress whites on formal night. They sure looked handsome and had all the women (young and old) drooling! They made a great impression!

Our very 1st cruise there was a man who thought he was John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever. White suit, black shirt, and gold chains. We giggled about him and the waiter caught us and joined in the laughter. The guy even had the "I'm so cool" jaunty walk.

We were on the Zenith sailing from New York to Bermuda a couple of years back (before 9/11). On board for our sailing were the bagpipers from the NYFD. On the two formal nights, they all dressed in their kilts and paraded into the DR, playing, after everyone else was seated (earning a standing ovation both times.) It was really impressive --- there had to be 30 or more. We thought of them often in the fall of 2001 as we watched the many funerals on TV of police and firefighters from NYC, so many of them featuring bagpipers from that same group.

The cutis one I seen was a little girl about 4. She wore a white dress with wings and had a silver tara on her head. There was a little boy on the other side of the room who was in tails and hat. I thought that they would make the perfect couple. Later on in the evening I seen both kids together but their backs were turned to each other like they just had a fight, I started to laugh. Neither of the kids realized that the other was there until the mothers said hello the the others child. The kids new each other from thekids club. They gave each other a hug. What a kodack moment.

In February on the Carnival Conquest there was a couple who both wore jeans, shirts, chains to their wallets and the man was bald but covered his head with a doorag, now thats what I call going all out. Personally I think they should have been told to eat at the buffet, if you want people to dress up-enforce it.

It's gotta be the woman on our Panama Canal cruise (read "the newly wed and nearly dead" cruise) that wore a backless royal blue sequined dress with the regulation white bra.
Guess it doesn't count if you can't see it from the front. LOL

There was a gentleman from Scotland on the Golden 4/10 who was completely outfitted in kilt regalia. He looked so distinguished that I had to compliment him on his attire!!

Well, on Crystal one time there was an English woman who made her own dress out of a boalt of Gold Lame fabric. Problem was, she didn't sew, so not only did she look like she was wrapped in gold Saran Wrap, but it came apart in places that you rather not have it come apart! We all felt sorry for her, until we got to know her. Probably the most uniformly despised passenger I've ever seen in 35 plus years of cruising. All 800 passengers knew who she was and had a "run in" with her. So I guess the dress was just kharma.

The Elvis-impersonator on our last cruise had kind of interesting taste in clothing. And, not just on formal night. He must have gone through a tube of Brylcream a day. Viva, Las Vegas, Baby!
