Has anyone experienced the bicycle tour on HMC. I noticed this listed on the shore excursion page and I don't ever remember hearing of this before. My guess is that it's a new tour for the upcoming fall/winter season, but I could be wrong (it's happend 1 or 2 times before!).

They say it's the only tour that shows the "Technical" aspects of the Island (Desalination plant, generating station). I would be interested to see that. Not sure if I'm interested enough to ride a bike for an hour and a half though...when I could be sitting on the beach sipping a cold adult beverage!

First I have heard of this tour on HMC. Obvious is must be starting this fall. Sounds interesting. Wonder what kind of bikes they will have?

Kurt, I really think you should do that tour... take lots of pictures... then come back to the cabanas and tell the rest of us lazy bums all about it.:D

This is the first I've heard of a bicycle tour at HMC and I think it sounds great. I'm interested about some of the technical details about the island. Sounds like an interesting tour.

I've wondered if they had some sort of building (not visible from the usual areas the guests occupy) to store all the chaises and water toys, the picnic tables etc when a storm (hurricane) strikes.

There has to be a place they store the maintenance equipment used for keeping the beach groomed.

I'd like to see the desalination area.

But..... :) love sitting on the beach there so much it would be hard to climb on a bike for 1 1/2 hours when I could be a lazy bum instead. ;)

They have seperate "tours" for reserving a Men's, Woman's or kid's bike.

Grunpy. That's what Gina said! "Have fun...I'll be swimming or sitting by the cabana!"

Brian - OK, I'm game. Do you think I need to go out and get a Pearl Izumi bike outfit with matching helmet?

Don't they have a Bicycle Built for Two? As I recall you had a lot of "fun" in the double Kayak last time. :D

That's a good one Sharon! Luckily tandem bikes only get steered by one of the riders!

On our first Alaska cruise (not HAL) we had a bicycle outfitter from Denver onboard. They brought the bikes right off the ship, had guided excursions or you could go on your own. We didn't do it, but knew many people who did and raved about it, saying most of the port cities were relatively flat, making for easy biking.

Keith - I've been working on old photos this weekend and I think I actually have some of you and Gina in the Kayak (We were on the Eco Tour at the same time). Check out

Yes Sharon that's us in the LAST Kayak. Maybe if we worked more harmoniously at paddleing and steering we wouldn't have been LAST in line all of the time! Thanks for the pics.
