I've read several of the threads about bringing wine onboard. I can't seem to find the exact information regarding my question. I'm fine ordering HAL wine with meals, but love to have a glass of Port while relaxing in the evenings. Will I be allowed to have an open wine in the cabin? Gosh I leave tomorrow morning and just realized I needed to know. Too Excited about this first cruise to think straight at this point.

Hi JmzandJojo. We were on the Oosterdam at the end of January and took a bottle of port onboard with us. We also enjoy a glass of port in the evening. We left the bottle out on the small counter where fruit and complimentary wine were placed by HAL. We were never charged a corkage fee.
Have a wonderful time on your cruise. If you are like DH and me, it will be the first of many. :)

Hi,
You are permitted to bring wine and champagbne on board, corkage is done in the dining room for consumption in the dining room. We always have wine in the room and have our own bottle opener with us. Your steward will even provide glaases if asked. It makes the evening so much nicer and a drink by the rail befoe dinner is also perfect:) .

As far as I know the corkage fee only applies to wines consumed in the dining room, not in your cabin. In February we were at a table for 4 with another couple who just happened to be in the cabin next to ours. They must have brought along 7+ bottles of wine and turned them over to the sommelier. We bought 3 or 4 nights out of the 10 and they, at their suggestion, shared the other nights. The sommelier, without being asked, didn't charge the corkage fee for a number of the last nights.....like the last 2-3. She'd done very well by the table as it was and "earned" an additional tip for her service.

Think about it- how would HAL charge you a corkage fee for wine in your room anyway? Have the room steward counting empty bottles he hauled out? :D

If you need a bottle opened for the wine in your cabin, just ask your cabin steward for one - no charge.
