Lesa--Get it yourself and go a day early. The only exception I have heard to getting it yourself is on some of the Hawaii cruises and on some of the repositioning cruises. As long as you go a day early and plan on returning late in the afternoon of your return or the next morning I don't think you have any problems.

I have never flown to Miami but have heard from MANY people that FLL is the way to go. It is a very easy airport to get through.

ALWAYS book air by yourself, always fly in a day early... almost no one who has cruised often does it any other way.

Hi Lesa. Agree, book your own,go a day early, we stay a day after, Ft lauderdale is the best, And the best time to return is around 1Pm. People get earlier flights, but if anything goes wrong, you are pretty safe with that time.

Check the airfare for both Miami and FLL. They tend to vary. Also where does your ship go from? If it's Miami then I would fly into Miami (I have done the Miami airport no less than 6 times) - it's about $20 to the pier. If it's FLL then try to fly in there unless Miami is less by alot. Then fly to Miami and contact a shuttle service or rent a car to get to FLL. They are about 1/2 an hour apart.
Always fly in a day early and if you can do it don't fly out on the same day as the disembarkation. It's an awful way to end a cruise.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do then by the ones you did. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

I'll add my ditto. You will almost always pay far less by booking yourself. Two possible exceptions: open-jaw flights, where you fly into one city for boarding the ship and fly home from a different city. Even then, you can most often do better if you book early.
The other exception would be if you simply cannot fly in the day before. Then, taking the ship's air will assure that you get to the ship at no additional expense if your flight is delayed past sailaway. In that scenario, the cruise line will arrange your transportation to the first port of call.
