View Full Version : Tahitian P./Obst. view #6047

Has anyone stayed in cabin #6047 (obstructed view) on the Tahitian Princess? (How about #6041 or #6037? Those also look totally blocked on the deck plans.) However, the agent said if you stand back and look directly at your window, you won't have a view of anything but a lifeboat, but the boat is several feet away from the window so if you walk up to the window and look out, you CAN see sky and a good bit of ocean. Also the light does come in and you can tell the weather. Do the lifeboats cause any loud creaking or other commotion that can be heard inside the cabin? (Normally we always have inside cabins and enjoy them just fine, but this is a 10 day cruise, so a little natural light might be nice. Can't afford to upgrade higher.) Thanks for any info!

Hi, We were in this room on March 8, 2004. I was dreading it but you do look at a lifeboat all but 1
day they took it out. There was also a couple times the guys were out there so watch the possibility of mooning them. It was not noisy and if your cabin steward is Jorge you are lucky. It is close to everything. You can tell somewhat the weather conditions but you can also tell that from the cruise directors talk in the AM. Rather had a balconey but oh well. You will enjoy.

Patty,
I'm also booked for an obstructed view on the Tahitian Princess. I was looking for a nice mid-ships quiet room and haven't even put in for an upgrade. I'm in 6049 -- it's starboard in the corner with no boat in front of it as per the deck plan -- which I know doesn't mean anything as it's only a drawing. So what do you think?
Maria -- we'll be neighbors!

Hey, THANKS, Patty! Oddly enough, I had read about lifeboat drills and things and how sometimes you might find crew outside your window so must be careful. But a few mos. ago when we were first getting ready to book, I asked a question about the obstructed view cabins on this ship (can't recall if it was on this site or another) and someone replied that they had stayed in one and there never was any activity involving the lifeboats nor crew around. I tend to trust your reply, however, so forewarned is forearmed. (You wouldn't happen to recall what day they removed the lifeboat, would you? Just hoping there is great view that day!) Oh well, if I follow my usual tendency, I'll probably hardly ever BE in our cabin anyway except to sleep! And do you happen to know what is located in the blank area (according to the deck plans) across from our cabin? I assume some sort of crew use area. Just as long as it isn't something real noisy.
And HeyJude, you can't request an upgrade in advance, can you? (We did not book through Princess.) I'd LOVE that to happen, as long as it wasn't over a showroom or something. I thought either you just got lucky and got one, or had to ask when you got on board - and would probably have to pay extra for it then(?). That's so cool that we already "know" who our neighbor will be! So if you are whooping it up over there, and hear an angry banging on the wall, that will probably mean my husband is trying to take ANOTHER nap! LOL! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif(Have you ever seen that Disney cruise commercial where the father is always napping somewhere? That's just like my DH!)

Hey: Jude and Maria,
Well, we finally got together. Judith and I have been e-mailing about hotels and shorex for a while now. She likes the planning as well as I do. Jude, Maria's friends/relatives are on the CB Eastern on 6 June with my Cindy & Steven. Or am I confusing you with the Lady who lives in Granada Hills, Maria?
Maria, e-mail me, please.

You need to call your T.A. and ask that a request for an upgrade be put on your booking. This is usually automatic unless, as Jude did, you specifically ask for NUP code be put on because you have carefully picked out this location. This is a very good value cabin because crew is often put in these cabins (the entertainers) so there is a very good chance for an upgrade. However, you may be upgraded to a full view window on Plaza Deck if you would not mind that. Also, you could be upgraded to a lesser mid-ships cabin. It is your choice. However, once you receive the upgrade, you most probably will not get your old cabin back because another pax or crew has already been placed in it. I would take the chance and request the upgrade. It is far too late at the dock - Princess never does this and especially on TA - she usually always sails all cabins full, sold out.

Hi Cruisepals!
Princess Di, you are correct in that my friend, "njoyndride" (Sharon - from Redlands, CA) is going on the CP. We met on the Serenade (RCCL) in Nov. Our other Serenade friend who will be on the TP cruise is "yorkshirelass" (Jan - from England but now lives in Chicago) who posted briefly on the Sept. 4 roll call page for the TP prior to leaving on the Summit. She'll be back and posting in about a wk. I will for sure email you later today or late tonight, Princess Di. Have to take off in a bit for a while & I tend to be wordy! (Like you can't already tell???!!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif My neighbor isn't much for messageboards, but I will try to get her to post on here since she is really nice and will be happy to meet everyone I'm sure.
Re: the upgrade, I can't tell which is the Plaza Deck from the deckplans in the brochure. Would it maybe be deck 4? I wouldn't really mind being down there I guess. But I would HATE being moved to anyplace above or below a music venue. Been there done that and it's not a good idea! Wonder if they'd let me specify that I didn't want that? Don't know if I should ask or not. Seems I already have a good "neighbor"! But a nice view would be sweet! My "agent" is a widely known travel site that does have a phone #. But, for instance, I was ALREADY cross referenced w/my neighbors for late seating on the orig. inside cabin. When I switched to the obst. view cabin yesterday, no record of that cross ref. could be found, so I have to call them back again w/the neighbor's and Jan's conf. #s. Also, confused some airfare reservations I had tentatively in place - won't go into that since it's of no consequence as I booked my own air last wk. on ATN and so did Jan and her DH. Besides that, on the website (this is a MAJOR travel site, by the way) they have incorrect info. - something like a warning: "this cruise leaves and returns to different ports". And for a month I've looked at the obst. view cabins and they kept listing them on deck 3, w/a # always starting w/3. Yesterday I checked on some other sites and found one where the deck (6) was properly listed. Went back to mine and for about one min. they had it right, then it switched off! I thought for wks. there were no deck 6 obst. views left! Then they told me my category was a PORTHOLE obst. view. I called Princess to verify that it wasn't. But even THAT agent didn't seem too sure. Just went by what the brochure indicated. (Geez, maybe WE should be the ones giving THEM the info!)
And thanks some more for the rest of the info. HeyJude and Patty.
I am SO EXCITED about this trip and enjoy having you all to "chat" with. Jan was saying how she wants to talk about it all the time and can't at work, etc. -Same here. You know the looks and comments: "You're going on ANOTHER cruise?!!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif" or trip, or whatever. I always say, "Well, when I die I won't be one of those people who say, 'I wish I had gone to so & so or done this or that when I had the chance'." You never hear people on their deathbed saying, "Gee, I am sorry I didn't keep my house cleaner." They are sorry about what they DIDN'T do in life! I won't be one of those!
So, what do you guys think? Go for an upgrade or not? Can't decide.

Hi Maria,
We are in cabin 6050 (on the 9/4 cruise). It looks like we could be neighbors! Not sure about the upgrade, I thought that they gave you a choice as to whether you wanted to "accept" an upgrade if offered.
I'm with you, I can't stop thinking/talking about this cruise! I am so excited. We booked the cruise 11 months out so that we could use some frequent flyer miles.

Maria,
It's a small cruise critic world. Two years ago I went on the Ocean repo coastal out of SF and communicated a lot with Sharon (njoyndride) before she boarded the Ocean for it's Panama Canal cruise to SF. We had some good laughs. If she remembers me it would be as "fortyniner."
I appreciate all the advice about the upgrade but have cocerns about ending up on deck three or four -- and I certainly want no deck higher up. I've cruised in insides before with no problem and enjoyed a balcony once also. Right now I just want "quiet" and to get on that ship and get to Tahiti!
Lisa, if you aren't moved via an upgrade we'll be close by (6049 here). We also used miles and will fly United and Air New Zealand arriving Papeete at 2:35am on 9/4. Only 18 more weeks until French Polynesia! Yay!

Hi Patty, we are on the May 7th in room # 6047 and not to happy with a view of the lifeboat -I hear its not even a very good "partial" view (why even have a window?????
When are you going? I see this room # listed a lot... This I guess was our upgrade, pretty disappointing after spending the $$$.

Hi Denise...we are also on the May 7 sailing and had booked an obstructed view guarantee. We think we have been upgraded (???)but....we are now deck 3 midships, which is OK. No obstructed view, but think we only have a porthole. Not really sure which of us has the better deal??? We find we spend so little time in our cabins and probably even less on this trip, so I'm not going to worry too much, but won't object if the upgrade fairy visits.
There is a roll call for this cruise....you should check in. Bob has already organized a little get together sailing day. You should join us! You will get a lot of info from everybody and it's fun to chat with others heading out on this cruise.
We don't leave until Friday AM and arrive in Papeete @ 6:30 pm and head right onto the ship. Hopefully won't be too pooped out, will certainly need a drink tho. We're doing a post stay on Moorea.
Please come and join us on the roll call....
Linda.

Hi Linda, we are excited too! Been counting down the days left of work- till we are Tahiti bound.
The people are all so nice and friendly on this site.
I wonder if a port hole is better, oh well it's Tahiti? you'll have to let us know.
It will be my husband and I traveling and just shy of our 1 yr. anniversary. This will be our 2nd cruise -last Feb. we did the Celebrity Century Caribbean- which was great!!
7 days left!

Hi ddb! Are you on the 5/7 too? We would really like to see the upgrade fairy, but like you say we are going to Tahiti....really who cares as long as we have somewhere to sleep (and you could even do that on the deck if worse came to worse)
We've done the Caribbean 2x and the Mexican Riviera. We thoroughly enjoyed those....I just hope I won't be too jaded after the South Pacific...cuz I sure can't afford to go there every year!
I know all about counting down the days....going with a friend from work (husbands too and another couple) so everyone and I mean everyone at work knows about it. We use post-it notes with the number of days left on our workstations...they probably wish we didn't go on holidays together!
We actually started counting hours today too!!

Thanks lkyfrog that's the best site I've seen yet....I clicked on the virtual tour for Pacific Princess (same exactly as Tahitian) and DeniseBerna....I hate to say it but I think we lucked out with our porthole on deck 3!! 6047 has a bigger window, but wow! the room itself looks pretty small....you are in a really good spot on the ship though, pretty central to everything. So that is the bonus on deck 6.
6047 is not, sizewise, unlike the inside we had on Ocean Princess a few years ago, but like I say we spent so little time in there we were glad we had saved the bucks. Friends who had a balcony didn't really spend anymore time in their cabin than we did, but....they did have a nicer view to wake up to. We just put the TV on the Princess channel and used the bridgecam as our window in the AM to check the weather.

Ickyfrog, boy were you ever right! I didn't realize the obst. view cabins were so small! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif This has me rethinking things . . .I had forgotten all about the cruisestateroom site. Thanks for mentioning it. I had been on there before, but not in a while. Of COURSE our cabin or ship doesn't have a 360 degree offering on there. Also, the photo of our cabin is VERY poor, and there is no diagram. Just says it's a bit smaller than an inside category H. Additionally, I couldn't find a photo of inside Cat. I, which is what we HAD before "upgrading" (?) to a cat. G. Might be back to square one on this deal!

We stayed in #6047 and to my great relief it was a good view. Each day we were in a port our tender was used leaving the beautiful view out our window... I recommend & was better then a port hole, but remember crew is often on the tenders for maintenece so keep curtains closed when undressed.

Hi Denise Berna...I don't think we did, but you just never know, we chatted with a lot of people. I was with a group of six so didn't really spend much time with the CC group. We did meet up with them for the sail away and many times over the course of the cruise though.
I was the one with the bad hair EVERYDAY!! The humidity saved me a lot of time in that I gave up trying to use the curling iron by day 2 except for dinner.
We were late sitting for dinner and had super waitstaff. Our waitress had her birthday and was also engaged to the busboy!
We had a wonderful time.....really hope someday to get back down there. Did you do any of the shore excursions? We may have met up on those.
We did the Marcs in Huahine, Muri Lagoon snorkel/picnic in Rarotonga, 4x4 safari in Raiatea, Bora Bora on our own day 1 and a tour on le truck day 2. Moorea, we just shopped around the pier and took advantage of the freebie shuttles the pearl shops were offering to go into Maharepa. We stayed 5 days post cruise on Moorea.
What a great trip is was. Just starting to get pics done now, but may have to mortgage the house!!
How was your cabin? We were actually quite glad we were down on deck 3 a couple of nights, hardly felt anything at all, even the night they closed the portholes. Curtains moved a bit and that was it. Really quite good being down there motion wise (hubby get a little seasick so was perfect for us) We were a little worried about vibration and noise, but not a problem at all. There were only a dozen or so cabins on that deck, so very quiet at night too, which was great. I would actually book that cabin again. And because we were with others, we spent very little time in there anyway.
