Just heard on the news a man jumped from the Carnival Legend in front of his wife and 2 small children after an arguement.
So far they have not found him.

Shame. Had a guy on my first ship do something similar, not sure why he did it. He was on watch, asked to be relieved so he could take a break. This was 11PM, he went back to the fantail, took off his shoes, handed his wallet to the Aft Lookout, stood on top of the bits and jumped over. Of course, the Aft Lookout (stunned) reported it immediately to the Bridge and Man Overboard was sounded. We did recover the man who was immediately taken off the ship by helocopter and brought to the carrier to be treated by the doctors. Fortunately for him, it was the Med in the middle of summer and we reacted very rapidly to the Man Overboard. Also, it was not that far from the point he jumped to the waterline.

I heard about this earlier in the weekend. There were at least two threads going. One on Carnival (which was thankfully closed as it got incredibly nasty) and one on RCI. You should be able to search for both if you want to read.
Was half wondering if a thread would show up here or not.
The information was mixed, some said he jumped, others he fell. The FBI was on board last night in NYC, interviewing witnesses, etc. I haven't checked to see if there is any update this AM. Will go look now. Didn't appear to be any major stories on it since the tragedy in Indonesia has the headlines.
Prayers to those that witnessed this event as it happened.

Geez...
Reminds me of the story about the couple who were on one of the Cunard ships: They had been bickering w/ one another the entire cruise when finally the husband had had it and said to his wife something to the effect of "If you don't just shut up, I'll jump over that rail" to which she snarled "You're not Man enough!" - Sure enough, he walked right over and jumped the rail in front of her and dozens of startled passengers!
Those poor kids - I bet they'll never go on a cruise again!

There is a brief article on msnbc and the AP about it. It is what I had read over on the other threads.

I'm not finding the article on MSNBC - would you happen to have a link to share?

Willsot thanks for the Cruise Junkie website. It gives very comprehenisve information about cruise industries dirts. I am not sure all of them are true but some of them are true, for example we were on Amsterdam Hawaii Cruise March 21- April 7. There were few crew members and passengers got sick and ship was on the red alert mode for most of the time.

Hi Brian,
Here it is:

Haven't been back over to Carnival today to see if anything new is on their threads. Doesn't seem like they have given it as much media attention as they have the RCI one.

Heard about it from on another web site early this morning. She had been on the Carnival ship when it happened. They were delayed getting back into NY.
I do think the wife is going to questioned at length as to what happened.

Wow - no wonder the moderators closed the first thread....
I hate to say, but as larger ships are built to accommodate more people, the more likely these types of things are to occur.

Those poor poor children. I hope they are young enough not to remember what happened. The man's judgment must have been impaired by mental illness or alcohol. Surely no straight-thinking person would do this to his young children.

If it's a small town with 2,500 people, and some guy is depressed and commits suicide it doesn't make the national news, but if it's a ship with the same number of people, it does. Go figure.  .
