View Full Version : Question about back to back cruises

Especially if you have 2 separate cabins....

What are the particulars with dealing with your luggage and checking in for the second cruise?

Obviously the first cruise would be business as usual. But when you arrive in the debarkation/embarkation city, do you have to pack up and get off the ship and go through embarkation again?

If you keep the same cabin, you may stay onboard or get a day transit pass to go ashore and explore.

If you need to transfer rooms, get a steward to help carry all your stuff to the new room. I would not repack.

They will have you check in during the first cruise for the second trip.

You can have the ship all day, with no need to get off, if you desire.

All passengers who are not disembarking will be asked to gather at a specific time and place on turnaround day. Someone from the ship's staff will escort you through Immigration, where you get to wave your little green "Continuing Passenger" card and grin mischievously at all those poor folks who have to return home.

Friends of ours who had to change cabins had three stewards load everything up and move it for them. It took only a few minutes.

You will be provided with new cruise cards before the turnaround. All you have to do is get a new security photo taken and you're all set. The whole thing takes less than an hour.

If you have to change ships, like we did, no assistance is provided.

Guys, this is not good.

I wanted to hear stories about how it was a horrific process and no one should even consider it. LOL Ok, I didn't want to hear that, but my bank account did!

Did it on the Royal in Southhampton last June and the Dawn in San Juan in April. Both times received letters asking us to bring our cruise vouchers to Purser's desk before end of first cruise. Both times new cruise cards were delivered to stateroom night before and we had to go and have our pictures taken where others were boarding the ship sometime the day they were embarking. A letter was delivered to us several days before the end of the first cruise with instructions, telling us what meal service options would be available to us the "turn around" day, and what we were to do should we wish to go ashore while others were disembarking. We did not have to reboard the ship and could stay on. The laundry room was open on both ships and a great day to use it.

We kept the same stateroom so did not have to change rooms.

Thanks for asking this question. We're taking back to backs on the Star in December. Sounds like a breeze.

If you rent a tux for a back to back, remember to rent it for the second cruise -- the rental does not extend.

We did a back-to-back where we had to change cabins, and I can't say the stewards were all that much help. They brought us a rolling rack for hanging clothes, but expected us to load and unload it. Everything else, we were expected to re-pack and then unpack again. It certainly took more than a few minutes. Before we changed cabins, the purser's office made it clear to us that it would happen that way. They were totally unconcerned that we weren't happy about it.

Another question regarding back-to-back; do you have to attend the muster drill a second time? Just curius as we will be on the Star in January.
Thanks.

On the TP last august they just had the new cards sent to our room and didn't need to take new pictures. They sent a letter with them stating that we would not be required to participate in the muster drill.

We just booked a back to back, I have an odd question, I save my cabin cards as reminders. Do you get Two cards, I am sure you would if you were in two cabins, what about one for the week? I want my cards to reflect the number of cruises I have been on.. does anyone know?

With a back-to-back, do you get doubly depressed on the last day? I know how hard it was to get off the Grand in March after one week, and couldn't imagine the trauma after two weeks.

I try to stay on the moderate end of the scale. I did overdo once, just once, http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, and it didn't turn out well. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Leaving Sunday for a back to back on the Dawn to Alaska. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
This is my 5th back to back...but first on Princess...so it's nice to know ahead of time how they handle things.

Tommyboy,
I don't know about everyone else...but DH and I ARE ready to get off after the second week.(no depression)
One week is never enough for us...two weeks is just right. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Besides if we didn't get off after two weeks...we would have to do the third week in our robes...being as none of our clothes would fit us http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
It does get me wondering though...Has anyone done a back to back to back? In other words three weeks on the same ship. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
