I was curious about people's experiences with these cruises.

Someone on the roll call board piqued my interest with talk of a 2 day repo cruise before my 7 day Alaska cruise.

The bad news is I think the choice of cabins is very limited http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Plus, we have to see if there's any chance in hell of changing our flights http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

But, the idea of a pre-cruise cruise has us giddy LOL

Hi Roo http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It would be awesome before a longer cruise, but if I was just on a two day, I wouldn't sleep to make it last longer, and they would have to pull me kicking and screaming off the ship! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Let me know how you like the Alaska cruise. Hubby would love to go, but I have had all the cold my life can handle. I am a true Florida girl http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Will do, Sue. I'm a little concerned because I'm not even close to used to cool weather but last year we went to the Grand Canyon and froze our bits off so I figure I can handle Alaska.

Plus, I've already been threatened by coworkers and friends if I didn't do a trip report and take lots of pictures I was a dead woman LOL

I am a big fan of the two or three night repositioning cruises.

Makes for a nice "weekend" getaway, and a great way to try a ship you haven't been on before.

Just got a Email from Princess that the Dawn Princess (LA - Vancouver)on May 7 - 10 is only $59 --new bookings only--for interior cabin, not including $26 taxes. We are already booked on that cruise thru ***********, so unfortunately Princess won't give us the even more discounted rates (or even shipboard credit, darn).

Don't get your hopes up on adding a repo cruise to an existing cruise...I just got my hopes dashed by the Jones Act http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Did they target those emails to LA or Vancouver locals? I didn't receive it. Princess' website is showing the specials rate for that trip at $299 for inside, and no other availability.

You get last minute cruise deails by signing up for their standbye program. When you register online from their website for this program, you indicate which ports you would be willing to sail from. Usually people pick ports near to their home.
My philosopy is any cruise (no matter how short) is better than no cruise.

I loved my short repo cruise a couple of years ago (Ocean Princess)even though it was painfully quick. During that cruise I met one couple who had come through the Panama Canal to SF on the ship and continued on the repo to Vancouver. Also, met with a cruise critic couple who started with the repo out of SF to Vancouver and continued on from there for an Alaska cruise. Why do some people have problems with this?

Any instructions on how to be notified of these last minute deals?

I love the uniqueness(is that a word? Need to make up a new word...how about... uniquity?) of the repositioning cruises. No stops makes them better. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

If I lived close by, I would definitely do it. But since it takes me a day to get out there and a day back - it is not worth it.

The 2 night SF to Vancouver is what changed my husband's mind about cruising--it was absolutely the best weekend in our 37 years together! Now my daughter and her "I will never cruise" husband are booked on this year's version. They've run into a snag, though--Princess isn't offering transfers to Seattle this year and the Quick Shuttle leaves too early for them to catch it. Any suggestions?

I did a 3-night on the Sun last September, Vancouver-to-Los Angeles, and really liked it. The 3-nights(with no port stops)seemed like 6 nights. I'll do the Island Princess this September on that same "itinerary" if I can. Loved the days-at-sea, weather was great.

We're on the two night repo of the Coral Princess from SF to Vancouver 5/6. When my TA (who is also one of my best friends) emailed me with the special pricing ($99 for balcony) we decided to go for it. We are considering Princess for an Alaskan cruise next year and figured this is a good sampler to see if we are Princess material (if they don't kick us off before Vancouver, I guess we are!). I'm looking forward to this as a fun getaway and a chance to try something new. This was a last minute impulse decision and very unlike me, a confirmed control freak.

We just booked the 3-day LA/Vancouver repo cruise last nite. My biggest problem is how to pack. I'm not use to a short cruise so I'm afraid will overpack. Any suggestions from those that have done a short cruise?

1cruiselvr, What ship will you be on? We have booked the Island leaving May 12th and have never done a reposition either. Great question! I understand that there is one formal night and many dress up. Then I am planning to pack for sun and maybe a little rain (but hoping not!)

Joanne,
We are booked on the Dawn Princess, LA/Vancouver, leaving May 7th. We only have 2 sea days. I hope there isn't a formal nite because I'm not planning on one. Guess I will have to eat at the buffet that night because I'm not bringing formal wear.

There is a formal night for the Dawn Princess 3 day cruise, or so it states in my cruise docs. . .I am assuming it is on Saturday night, since it wouldn't be the night before we disembark. I hear you don't really have to dress very formally, so don't eat at the buffet unless you want to.

Hi Lisa,
We just booked 2 days ago so we don't have docs or cabin assignment yet. Probably will have to pick docs up at the pier. My husband is insisting that he won't dress up at all for this cruise, thinks it is silly for just 2 days at sea. I have to agree with him. I'm only bringing a skirt with different matching tops for dinner. We picked personal choice so hopefully it will be a bit more casual in that dining room.
It won't be long now!
