View Full Version : Time Zones for Med Cruises

Hi Yall,

I'm curious to know about time zones when we sail in the Mediterranean.

For example, when we sailed the Caribbean from FL, the ship always stayed on Eastern Time, although we went to Cozumel, which was on Central time.

So, with that in mind, how does time zone travel work with Mediterranean cruises? If we leave Barcelona, does the ship always stay on Spain time? What happens when we visit Kusadasi Turkey and Athens, which are one hour ahead of Spain, France and Italy?

Thanks Yall!

Happy Sails,
Mrs. Tulpule

I would imagine it will work like it did on the Hawaii cruise from CA. When you are entering a diff time zone, clocks will be set accordingly during the night. A note was left on the pillow, and the CD made announcements during the evening entertainment.

The ship will notify you ithe patter if there is a change in time zones. The Med is not a problem. I cant remeber a time change although there may be an hour or so here or there. The ship is always on local time.
The real bummer of a trip from the time change perspective was the Baltic. It was like an hour or two every day- and since it was a round trip cruise, it was never over !
People complained about it and as the CD said, the ship can stay on one time, but then you will be docking in the middle of the night somewhere disembarking !

Hi,

Does this help?

Monte Carlo, Spain (Barcelona) and Italy (Venice, Livorno etc) will be GMT+2, Greece (Athens) and Turkey (Kusadasi) GMT+3

When we were on the Golden last year in the Med, the time changed after we left Turkey/Greece. It was written boldly in the Patters to remind everyone!

Happy Sailings!

This is a good site for checking out whether certain countries are on DSL and what the time will be when you are there:

Time Zone Conversion (http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc)

Don't forget to uncheck the "Use Current time/date" box.
