What are the perks? Because I might select my next destination right now and book while on the Diamond later this month. Thanks!

Bascially the perks are money.
You get between $25 and $150 pp in onboard credit for the cruise you select depending on cabin location (inside-outside-balcony) and duration. 7-15 days.
You can still use your own TA and have up to 4 years to use an open booking. Also rather than having to put 50% down it is $100 per person.
The other HUGE advantage is that you can know as they drag you off the ship at disembarkation that you are not looking at a an unending dry spell.

You don't have to have a particular cruise to book - you can make a deposit (only $100 pp) on an open booking and transfer it to your TA at time of finalizing the cruise. Plus you get cabin credits based on length of cruise and type of room.

So if I understand corerctly, an open booking is where you put an advance towards another cruise but you don't specify the ship or date?

I know you have to put $100 down per person while on board for future cruises, but do you also have to put $100 down for the third person. Can you add the third person on later when you deside where and when you are going. Thank you

Yes because you don't have to pick a date, ship, cabin. If you already know what you want, and want to book everything on board you can book a quad, and it is $100 pp for the first two.$200 total to book.

Sue... you are caught in a rare oversight, you don't have to put $200 down, you can put $100 down for ONE NAME only and add the SECOND at time of booking.
I got two open bookings for $200 less than 10 days ago and have used one exactly that way already.
Gotta know how to make those cruise $$$'s work. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Works like a charm. Infact we added the other name AND two couples to TWO other cabins using the "share the wealth" option.
Total of six people, three cabins, $100 on the credit card... it pays to be cheap and nosy.

Has anyone else noticed the onboard consultants aren't exactly a wealth of information?
I'm sure there are some good ones but I either get incorrect information or realize I'm more familar with Princess than they are.
Perhaps I spend too much time on here reading about Princess http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Steve, please Explain the Share the wealth program. Can they be a 3rd or 4th in your cabin, or book a cabin of their own?

Sue,
I can't say definitively on the third/fourth in a cabin, I can only assume that has the same terms as the first two.
Share the wealth is intended to invite friends or family along with you on a cruise and share in the same benefits, including the low deposit figure. We have used it to secure 2 other cabins for family, friends at the same terms. You have to use the same TA, and have have the bookings cross referenced. There is normally a coupon that accompanies the booking you get from the future cruise guy/gal/kid.

Sue- we did the same thing on our Golden cruise a couple months ago.
I was traveling with one daughter and wanted to cruise again in the future with the other daughter and my wife.
I bought future cruise credit of $100 for each of us onboard at the time and got Share The Wealth coupons to use enable me to get the same deal for the other family members who had not yet sailed Princess.
To go a little further than noted above, the Share the Wealth program is basically a referral program. In addition, through the Captains Circle website you can invite friends to cruise Princess and when they do both you and the friend will receive an onboard credit varying in amount using the same criteria noted above.
So with all that in hand, when I got home I booked the Caribbean Princess for June, The Star Princess for October and the Diamond Princess for December, all falling under the $100 pp deposit/$50 pp cabin credit deal.
Next cruise I plan on stocking up on those $100 pp credits toward future cruises that qualify for the deposit amount again; I'll use them in the manner Steve described above.
Also, I'd bet they let you do what you want on adding an additional daughter....is that our Star cruise?
Happy Cruising

Hi Chris. Yes!! Kim is going to fly down here and rip my throat out!! I am making her crazy on this cruise. I cancelled the little guys, got rid of one cabin, kept the quad, Dick is mad cause he thought he had his own cabin, http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, so now there are three of us in the quad. Another daughter chimed in, and thought she would like to go. Sooooooo I thought maybe it might work if we booked her into the 4th bed.? If it doesn't work, maybe you can help me figure it out when I book onboard in Oct. for the next one.Lol. If I don't lose my mind on this one. I have already told all of them to leave me alone and go have fun!!!! I have more of them around now than I did when I was raising them!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

So help me here, if I'm understanding this correctly. My mom and I are going on the Diamond if September. However, I can do an
open booking by putting a $100 deposit down for both my husband AND myself for a future cruise or is it $100 for me and $100 for my husband? That's where I'm a bit confused. Someone said I could just put down my name and
add a name later, but I already know that I want to take my husband on a future cruise in February.
Also, what is the shipboard credit? Is it $50 per cabin for inside and $100 for an outside cabin? Or is that shipboard credit per person

Yes, you can put $100 down for you and hold the booking, you have an option to put the other $100 down for him, I know who I was taking to but didn't put the money down untill I booked. Got more bang for the buck that way.
Works out in the end as you have to pay 100% 75 days prior just like everyone else.
As to the cabin credit, that is a present from Princess for booking while aboard. It is a folio credit and you start you sailing with a positive balance rather than a zero. The size depends on what you book and for how long, $50 for a 7 day inside cabin, $300 for a 15 day balcony.

We did an open booking on the Diamond Princess for 3. We put down the deposit amount $200 for this booking (didn't know that you could do it any other way!). We used it to book our February cruise.
Steve - my question is this - did you have to pay the other $100 when you added the second person to your booking or no? I want to make sure I have this straight when we cruise in November because I will be doing open bookings then.
Also where did you get the "Share the Wealth" coupons - onboard?

Yes the second hundred was charged at the time the second name was added. We did not get the coupons but knowing of their existence called Princess and had them note in the file that we were bringing others along and they told us to make sure the TA cross references the two or three bookings together. I figure I will "open" two more on the 22nd, leaving me with three.

I always pre book onboard, but have always made a deposit of $100 per person. If I only made one $100 deposit, came home and book a cruise, will my husband's deposit be only $100 or the usual deposit amount?
skarletohara

Let me just add this. I just e-mailed my
TA and asked about a future booking for March '05. My mom and I are traveling on the Diamond in September, but I already think I'm
going in March again because my husband's friends are going, so I e-mailed my TA and she
says that I can book now, put down the regular
$250 per person deposit, but she'll give me a cabin credit of $100. AND she said then I can
do an "open" booking when I sail, but I'd have
to come up with the $100 per person open-booking fee, but could apply it to this future sailing AND I can also get the $100 ADDITIONAL
cabin credit. So, therefore, $350 per person
deposit it was it actually comes down to,
BUT $200 cabin credit! That's not a bad deal
either. It's a creative way of getting more
cabin credit!
Has anyone ever heard of that?

cabin credit. So, therefore, $350 per person
deposit it was it actually comes down to,
BUT $200 cabin credit! That's not a bad deal
either. It's a creative way of getting more
cabin credit!
Has anyone ever heard of that?
My TA routinely has cabin credits, I did it backwards, did the $100 deposit on the ship, got the cabin credit from Princess, called the TA when home and asked for a date thats she had cabin credits. I got $200 in credits with $100 down for deposit.

NO, I have compared with that person from time to time and have found my agency and my gal at it to be as good or better by a few pennies.
I don't want to be specific, but not for the usual reasons, she is hard enough to get through to on the phone now. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Don't know if I am repeating the same question here again (a bit confused with the number of cabins and people) This July, only DH and myself with be on board. Can we book 2 cabins (one for the children even if they are not with us at this sailing)Is this where the share the wealth coupons come in? If yes, do I use my name for one cabin with $100 deposit and DH name for the second cabin with another $100 deposit? Or is it $200.00 PER cabin? Thank you.

Yes it is the same question, but ok.. you can reserve a cabin with ONLY $100 down on ONLY one name. When you book the cruise as opposed to reserve it, you add the other name and the other $100(s) to the booking. The share the wealth is for people you bring NOT in your cabin at least usually not in your cabin.

So I can put $100 my name for a double cabin? Hubby $100 his name for a triple cabin (even if the kids are not with us at the time, right) Does everybody receive a shipboard credit?

Haven't tried it on a triple, but you aren't booking a cabin, you are booking an open booking. When you book the cabin back at home thru your own TA, you add the other people and their deposits, and yes all get the cabin credits.

I booked when on the TP last year . Two weeks ago I booked a 10 day cruise on the Dawn , February 18, 2005 Cat. BB Balcony for $1070.33.....
Because I booked on the TP last year I was guaranteed $200.00 on board credit. But I also received from my TA another $250.00 for a total of $450.00 on board credit and also 2 coupone books worth $120.00 each. Which I think is pretty good......

The cabin credit is VERY good, the coupon books are pretty useless. We managed about $30 in value out of two of them perhaps someone could get more out of it than we did. It was a two-fer on this and 10% off $100 worth of that. We did use the match play in the casino with some good result and the $5 off internet usage was good but otherwise.. not so much.
