Hi, I'm wondering how I get the phone number for the Oosterdam, to give to family members in case of emergency and they need to reach us onboard the ship? Thank you for all help!

When you recieve your documents, there will be a card with them that has the numbers to all of the ships and instructions on how to call land to sea.........jean:cool:

There are 2 cards included with your documents. All the ships are listed on the cards along with the HAL's telephone number. I always circle the ship's name that we will be cruising on and write our cabin number on it for our neighbors.

The procedure and numbers are listed on HAL's website.

You don't say which itinerary you're going on, or when you're going. Oosterdam basically does two itineraries: Alaska and Mexican Riviera. I know that cell phones work in the Mexican ports of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerta Vallarta. A cell phone may or may not work at sea, depending on how far you are from shore and a cell phone tower. I would imagine that the same is true of the Alaska itinerary.
Call your cell phone provider. My Cingular account had to be "provisioned" to allow it to work in Mexico, but it didn't cost anything. Even at the international per minute rate, it was much cheaper than the direct call to the ship. OTOH, the direct call will work wherever you are.

We are on the July 8th, 2006 sailing to Alaska. Thank you very much for the link and helpful info! We're with Verizon, so it's on my list to call them and see what kind of cell coverage we can expect. Thanks again! Deb

Telephone
Direct ship-to-shore telephones are provided in each guest stateroom. You may easily place a call to friends, relatives or business associates during your cruise-reception permitting. Similarly, friends and family in the U.S. and Canada may contact Holland America ships by direct-dialing the following number:
1-866-HAL-SHIP (1-866-425-7447)
Callers should have the ship name, party name and the cabin number ready before dialing. Those at home may also dial each ship directly by dialing the International Access # (011 from the U.S.), Ocean Code # and Ship #.
Ocean Codes:
Pacific Ocean Region 872 Alaska & Pacific
Atlantic Ocean West 874 Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and South America
Atlantic Ocean East 871 Europe, Africa, and Mediterranean
Indian Ocean Region 873
Ship Numbers:
ms Amsterdam 324-437-011
ms Maasdam 130-2513
ms Noordam 324-602-821
ms Oosterdam 324-541-710
ms Prinsendam 324-412-610
ms Rotterdam 324-616-710
ms Ryndam 130-2562
ms Statendam 130-2515

For example: someone calling from the U.S. to the ms Amsterdam in Alaska would dial: 011-872-324-437-011.
Please note: All phone calls, whether inbound or outbound, are charged a satellite tariff. Outbound calling rates are posted near your cabin telephone and will be billed to your on-board account. These charges are applied to ALL calls including calls to 800, 877 and 888 numbers. Please do not use a credit card or phone card; your on-board account will be billed in addition to the cost of the phone card or charges to your credit card. Collect calls are not possible from the ship.
