We are trying to decide between February 11, 2005 or May 2005. Does anyone have any comments regarding weather and average age of fellow cruisers? Thanks

I can't comment on your dates, but we went in Jan. 03 and we are going back in Jan. 05. We are in our mid/late 40's and there were many couples in our age group. Many younger than us too, not ot mention only a couple of children.

here is the weather report from The Tahiti Traveler (http://www.thetahititraveler.com)
* The dry season -also called Austral winter- taking place between April and October brings an expected coolness, July and August being the coolest months of the year due to southeast trade winds called maraamu. As a consequence a cotton sweater will often be enjoyable in the evening (or early in the morning).
* The humid season -also called Rainy season- starts in November and ends in March. It brings mugginess, humidity as well as heavier and more frequent rains than in the dry season. During that season, tropical storms may occur. Winds can reach speeds of over 220 km/h and can eventually evolve to a cyclone, an extremely rare event though. French Polynesia was touched lastly by cyclones at the beginning of the 90’s after having been hit 6 consecutives times in 1982-1983 (this had not happen since 1906 !). These cyclonic events are due to a well know phenomenon called “El Nino” (see below for more details).
No matter what the weather - enjoy!!! It is the trip of a lifetime!!

Our first time in Tahiti was Feb 03. We had mostly sunny days and some rain showers. This time we will be going in November. It may be the rainy season but you never know how wet it will actually be.

We were on a Rennaisance cruise in Tahiti on May 30, 2000 (my birthday)and experienced a typhoon. The seas were so rough we missed one day in Moorea (couldn't anchor safely and tender)and the next day was rainy and dismal, though we were able to go ashore in Huahine. We did end up with a few perfect days near the end of our 10 day trip. Fortunately, we had great weather for the fabulous Bora Bora.
It is an incredible place and we still consider it our best cruise experience even with the bad weather. You will have a wonderful time no matter when you go.
I'm gonna go get my Tahiti album out. Just thinking about it makes me miss it!!!

Just wanted to add...
We were among the youngest cruisers on that ship, but we found a few other young couples on the boards before we left and managed to hook up with them onboard. We enjoyed talking with the older passengers and found several great couples near our age (early to mid 30's)to hang out with when we wanted company. It was easy to find those in our age group since there weren't very many!!
Have a wonderful trip!!!!

We're on the TP on the Feb. 2005 cruise. We have a group of 20. Ages ranges are 40s-60s. We're 56/54, we have one couple in the 60s, and I've had contact with another board member on this cruise who is in the 60s. This is our first time to Tahiti so I can't speculate on the rest of the ship.

I was on the Wind Star in Tahiti in November, and it was only sunny one day out of 7. Many folks onboard complained that it wasn't postcard perfect, but it was to be expected for November.
I'd say pick the May date, becuase even though you might be prepared for the rain in February, it will probably be more fun if it wasn't raining! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We were on Tahitian Princess this year end Feb. I think we had one mornings rain when we arrived at Bora Bora, but the sun came out in the afternoon. It was my 40th Birthday, there were a few honeymoon couples in their 30's most others were 40+. Though honestly the ages of peole don't matter we met great new friends who we keep in touch with all different age ranges. I particularly enjoyed the company of the Americans who are not judgmental when they talk to you unlike most of the Brits who are if they hear a strong northern accent!
All in all this was the best holiday we have ever had, worth the long long journey and I'd return anytime of year with peole of any age.
Fantastic places, fantastic ship, go and enjoy...I envy you!
See ya later

We were in Tahiti last November and it rained for the three days we were there, very disappointing for those that were making their first trip through the islands. I had raved on how wonderful it was, but they just didn't get the full effect with all that rain. But even though it poured down rain, that didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves.
But it is MUCH nicer if you can visit when it is NOT the rainy season.

For those of you that have been is there a kids program on this ship. I would love to take this cruise but would not want to leave our daughter at home. She is currently 8 and has been on 5 cruises and done a fair amount of traveling. (I love to travel so she gets to go too).
Thanks

ok - here are a few comments...
1) i was on the 7/22/03 cruise for my honeymoon - supposedly the "winter" season and we had fantastic weather. it rained for 15 minutes out of the the 15 days that we were there (we did pre and post cruise also). it was never cool...we did water excursions every day and the temperatures were great. our tour guide in raiatea said that it was the first sunny day in weeks - go figure...i read that you should never worry about what month you go to french polynesia because the climate is really consistant year round.
2) i don't think they had an official kids program (but i can't be 100% sure). we were on in july and i would guess that there might have been 10 kids on board - they seemed to find each other and usually looked like they were having fun. sorry i can't give a better answer. i can definitely say though that the ship is small and doesn't have all the amenities (arcades, etc) that some of the bigger ships have.
3) we had a bunch of different ages on our trip. there were thirthy-something honeymoon couples, a few kids and a mix of different ages and nationalities. we were 27 at the time and met a great 30-something couple at dinner that we are cruising with in november! we also met a lot of other great people no matter what their ages were!
hope that answers some questions...any more, just let me know! it was the best trip of our lives!
alison
ps. we got upgraded to an owners suite a few days before the trip - if anyone is booked in any of these, you are in for a treat - it was great!
