Upgrades on Princess

Hi!

I have never sailed with princess before, how do they handle upgrades? We booked 7 months in advance in a Balcony Gaurantee, how often do upgrades happen? Anyone ever go from Balcony to minisuite?

Some have gone from balcony to mini but do not expect it. Upgrades can happen anytime. It all depends on the ship and how fast things are selling. Ie a ship in summer may sell out very quickly were as in Sept it may not.

Check your cruise personlizer once a week. Generally, you may not see your room until a few days before if it is selling fast. It can also be given at the pier.

Find a site that does live pricing and avaiability, I use cruisshopping.com and see what is open above your booking, if there are no open cabins, you won't be seeing a move. Check personalizer but a balcony is a prett decent cabin and if you get what you bought it won't be a bad thing.

We've been upgraded 3 out of 4 times from a balcony to a suite or minisuite.
We always book assigned cabins and at least 12 months out...more like 18 for most of our cruises.
The only time we weren't upgraded is when the ship was totally sold out.

We got upgraded from a balocony (BB) to a minisuite (AB). We booked the cruise about 8 months early, and we got our upgrade about a week afer we made our final payment (4 months early).

Most upgrades on Princess will occur just a few days before sailing. The best way to find out if you received one is to keep checking the personalizer from a week before you leave right up until you walk out the door.
But, as stated above, don't get your hopes up as even though upgrades do happen, it is in a very small percentage of bookings. All will depend on how the upper categories sell, if they are sold out or if they are in need of more cabins in YOUR category.
