Does HAL offer wine packages like RCI does? I can't find any wine prices on the HAL website. Could someone tell me the price range by the bottle on HAL? Do they offer a drink of the day at a special price? And what is the price for a cocktail and wine by the glass, please?

The Wine Order Form available on the "gift" page (http://www.hollandamerica.com/onboard/gifts.do?gifts=beverages) at the HAL web site has info on wine packages.

 I think bottles of wine start around $24 and up. The drink of the day is $3.95. cocktails and mixed drinks from around $4.95 and up, wine by the gass, $5 and up.......hope that helps..........jean:cool:

PS they also have happy hours in most bars at various times, check the daily paper for which bar and at what time

Dakrewser already gave you the "where to find" for the wine packages on the HAL site. Your other questions are actually hard to answer. I'll take the easy first. Yes, they have "drink of the day" specials, usually 3-5 different kind of drinks from 1 or 2 basics to 2-3 "fru-fru" drinks. Wine by the bottle on HAL usually runs from $28-$29 per bottle up to whatever you're willing to pay for special reserve or vintage wines. I can't remember individual drink/wine by the glass prices for sure......I just give them the card/cabin number and faint at the end of the cruise when I see our bar bill. I want to say wine is like $4-5 a glass and drinks start in the $6-7 range.....I just don't remember. Since we usually drink gin and request Bombay it runs the bill up a bit from standard bar well costs. Sorry.......:o Oh yes, almost forgot....all wine, beer and drinks are subject to the automatic 15% gratuity.

39August,
Yes, you can order off the "Gift packages" and get a good idea of price.
You can also go to www.cruiseclues.com and click on different menues on the tool bar. Daily programs have the daily specials...menues have wine lists and bar menus have ...booze and prices. If the ship you are sailing is not in the menu you are looking at it doesn't matter. Prices fleetwide are the same.

It looks as if you can no longer order a bottle of alcohol and a few cans of mix for in-room consumption. It this true? I was hoping to order a bottle of Tanqueray and some tonic water...

You can order bottles of alcohol for in-cabin consumption - either before you leave from home through ship services or when you get on the ship from room service or you can go to any bar and get a bottle (15% gratuity will be added on).

Happy - there haven't been any special deals in any of the bars for HappY Hour on any of the ships we have been on lately - just the hot and cold appetizers. Only the daily specials which we don't care for and on some ships the martini special of the day which we have deiscovered lately is made with cheap brands of alcohol.

I really feel it depends on who the F&B manager is on a ship whether they have specials or not. We have been on ships where every bar has a special at certain times of the day..........jean:cool:

Jean makes an excellent point and it's a good observation. We too have noticed that there is some difference from cruise to cruise on HAL regarding specials or drinks of the day. I think Jean is correct that it's up to the Food and Beverage manager and, I'd add, probably is somewhat driven by the demand on a given cruise. By that I mean, we've been on cruises where we're the only people in a particular lounge, almost for the whole cruise. Next cruise, same lounge and it's standing room only. Need more bar traffic? Run more specials and drinks of the day.
