I noticed on the deck plans that there are many balcony cabins with a shower only (no bathtub) on the Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, etc.
What are these like and, more importantly, anyone have pictures of the bathrooms?

Thanks Tink we also need this info. There are two posts on the board which imply the shower curtain will be blowing in on you and stuck to your b.tt

I'm not sure of your definition of "Many". It looks to me on the Vista class that there are the last 6 aft (3 port, 3 starboard) that are configured that way as well as the very forward cabins on the upper prominade (4 port, 4 starboard) that have shower only as well as all the wheel chair accessable rooms. As far as what the bathroom is like, everything will be the same except there will be a shower stall and no bath tub.

I had an inside on the Zuiderdam with a shower. I had no trouble with it or the shower curtain. There was a small corner mirrored wall cabinet which would hold a few toiletries and there was a shelf under the sink. There was plenty of counter space.

There was a vanity in the cabin.

26 non-handicap shower-only balcony cabins is my definition of many. (Notice they are on more than one deck.)
Add to that the 17 outsides.....and then there are the handicap ones........
Any pictures out there? What are the handrails, if any, like in the shower?

My only experience with a non-tub stateroom was an inside cabin on the Oosterdam, 4154. The shower was small, but not frighteningly so. I've been in smaller. There was a few shelves, the same showerhead as in other cabins, and a curtain. Don't remember any handrails.

Bottom line: if you're worried about having one of the few verandah cabins with a shower only, book a cabin with a regular tub/shower combo if at all possible.

Friends on Oosterdam were in the stateroom next to us w/ a shower only.

One is a big guy - 6'3/220# - he never had an issue w/ being able to move around in the shower as it's a bit larger than the shower that's in the suites...

They have wire shelves for soaps, low thresholds (there's a drain in the bathroom floor under the sink for excess water anyways) - I don't recall if there was a plastic liner for the curtain, but Noordam showers don't have one - just the woven nylon fabric curtain.

BTW - I don't recall which it is, but if you leave the bathroom door open or closed while you're showering, the curtain is less likely to collapse in on you with one than the other...

Are there any grab bars in the shower?
Sure wish there were pictures out there.....

As I recall, there are grab bars in the tubs and showers, but not in the showers in the suites

Oh, only 32 days until my Alaska cruise on the Zuiderdam. Looking forward to the clingy shower curtain. Brings back a lot of memories.

I was on the NCL Star last year and their lowest insides have a glass shower door in the cabins. Cool, but still missed the clingy shower curtain.

Yep did notice that Sean, just thought it still a small ratio to the overall number of cabins :D I'm a shower type of guy myself and as long as I don't have to take a "Navy" shower, I'm pritty happy :D At any rate, I'm sure it will be fine if your using one of those cabins.

Well, I booked a handicap on the Zaandam. One of those in the bow with the 2 portholes. Not crazy about the portholes but I like the unusual shape of this cabin as a change from the usual "HAL rectangle" on these "S" class ships.
I put on my file that I would accept a handicap upgrade if one becomes availiable......perhaps I will wind up with a window.:)
