verizon cell reception in alaska

Was wondering if anyone that has verizon cellular can tell me what kind of reception they have gotten in Alaska? Realize the topic has been covered before, but I haven't seen verizon addressed. thanks.

A quick visit to the Verizon web site and the inputting of the zip code for Juneau (largest city on most itineraries), shows NO service.

Since I have Verizon, should I just buy a phone card and try to find a pay phone? Are there many in Skagway and Ketchikan?

we have Verizon phone service and was in Alaska last year, our phone did work in some cities, it did work in Juneau, Anchorage and Keticihan, but did not work in Skagway, so dont know why it says no service, do go to your local store and they will tell you how to "boost" your long distance service. Service was spotty but we did use our phone several times and we were not charged roaming. Have fun in Alaska it is beautiful
