Food wonderful. Spent 24 days on Nautica from Bangkok to Beijing in Feb and March. Food is as good as any ship we have been on, including Crystal, Radison and Silversea.

If your friends have reported good food ...why the question???
Do a search through the messages here and it will show you how many people love the food etc...on Oceania.

Opinions re food of course are subjective.
That said, my wife & I, with 30+ cruises under our belts, agreed that the food on Oceania's Regatta, into the Baltic last August, was the best we have had at sea, surpassing HAL, Crystal, and the late great Royal Cruise Line.

Have a look at the Oceania website under "fine dining" then click on the restaurants & then their menus.

DW and I happen to love Indian food. When I didn't see any on either the menu or in the Tapas buffet, I asked one of the Indian kitchen staff - he replied that he would be glad to prepare Indian food for us. Just an example of "O"'s service-oriented staff.

We usually cruise with Celebrity but have decided to give O a try as they are able to visit ports that the larger ships do not go to.
All these boards seem to suggest that the food on O is better than the food on X BUT I am a little worried after reading the remarks in Berlitz Cruise Ships 2006 by Douglas Ward. He gives the food on X 327 points out of 400 (M Class) but only gives O 304 out of 400. He says that O's claim to to cuisine so extraordinary it's unrivalled at sea is hogwash (his word not mine)-it's good but not that good.
He also onlt gives the O ships 1553/200 overall whereas X get 1697/2000.
What are the opinions of others who have been on both lines?

Been on Celebrity's Mercury 3-04, and Oceania's Regatta 8-05, and both my wife and I thought Oceania's food much better than Celebrity's. We thought Celebrity's above Princess, but below HAL.
Opinions very subjective, true - but that is ours.
Looking forward to Oceania's Nautica, Istanbul to Singapore, through the Suez, 11-06.

Plasnewydd,
I have been on Celebrity and found the food to be good. After reading all the posts on CC and many reviews I have chosen our next cruise (wife and I) to be on Oceania in March of 2007. Therefore, I will not have first hand knowledge to share with you until then.
But if you carefully read the reviews from the folks on these posts they find the food on O to be very good to excellant and on par with the highest lux cruise lines.
I can say that the menus offered on Oceania are much better than X. There are a few opportunties to have Lobster on O where on Celebrity you only have one chance at it. And sometimes on X the lobster is prepared and covered in green cream sauce, which is not to my liking. Another difference with food; on X you have to pay $30 per person to eat in their speciality rest where on O you pay nothing. O has two speciality rest where X has only one.
Also I have heard that Berlitz documents higher ratings to the larger and/or new vessels. Hope this helps.
Hal :)
PS- my father's side of the family is from Aberdare, Wales.

Hard to find peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches at dinner. ;) I'm sure they'd make them, but I didn't want to bother anybody. So, I forced myself to eat the gourmet offerings. Hee, heee

Druke I has got it right...believe O food is as good, if not better than Crystal (8 sailings) and SB (5 sailings)...will be doing SS next month to Alaska so that will give me another data point...nexy cruise will be the 30th for my wife & I.

Thanks for all the responses. We are on X's "new" Century from Amsterdam to Barcelona on 2nd Sept. and then we are on O's Regatta from Miami to Miami on 13 Feb so will be able to compare at first hand. Everybody except Mr Douglas Ward seems to agree that the O food is better than that on X- which itself is pretty good most of the time!
Aberdare is right in the south east corner of Wales we are in the north west.
By the way, will we find any other non Americans on the Caribbean cruise on O? We were the only ones on a Mercury cruise out of Seattle las year and that was fine.
We do not have many country clubs in this part of Wales so I cannot go and have a spy to see how elegantly casual they are! Is the dress code for dinner on O like X's casual nights or more like their semi formal nights?
