I will be on the Diamond in June in a forward suite B104. In looking at pictures of the Diamond in Seattle, it looks like those balcony are solid steel. I talked to Princess last night and was tolded they had no notes about them being solid. I don't want to be Alaska and have to stand to see out. If anybody can help let me know.

It's more than likely glass below the railing. The balconies with steel or metal bars beneath the railing are typically built into the hull, like the Sun, Dawn and Regal.

Cruisin'Chris is probably correct. But if you are sitting down, chances are you will be eye level with the rail. I spent a lot of time looking through the glass or raising my head just a little to see over the rail. For anything that was exciting, like a dolphin, flying fish or barracuda, I was standing.
I suppose it was plexiglass, but it was very clear.

We had a cabin on Aloha deck and the balcony had tinted glass below the railing. It was quite thick glass. Sitting in one of the chairs on the balcony the railing was just about eye level for me. To separate from the other balconys the material is metal and the connecting door looked like a plexiglass that was a solid color so you could not see through it. If you know the people in the next cabin you could join the two balconies by opening the connecting door.

Mindy.. I'm looking at my photos I took on the recent Diamond cruise, and I say the front balconies are solid white steel. All the side balconies have tinted glass/plexiglass below the railing though.
However, the photos I have of D737 show the "extended" portion that curves around toward the back as solid. Looking at C-Cruise's wonderfuld photo of the front of the Diamond parked in Seattle, I think all those front areas are also solid white steel. Seems plain as day in the photo. Its a sharp contrast to the blue glass you can see on the balconies on the side of the ship.

I am on the Diamond right now (Internet Cafe) and all the balconies have plexiglass so you can see through them as you are sitting down.
Very nice! ;-)

The forward balconies are very definitely not glass, but are steel.

Finally a answer about the forward suites balcony. My TA talked to Princess this AM and the agent had been on the Diamond.. The balconys are solid steel. It is part of the structure of the ship. Also she was told that the balcony doors are locked depending on the wind.
