Can you buy a bottle of liquor at the duty free shop onboard and consume it in your room during the trip? I ask as my dad is an avid scotch drinker, and likes to have them in his room. Any advice?

No, if you buy it in one of the shops it will be delivered to your cabin the final evening.
But you CAN order it from room service for a pretty comparable price. Do not buy it from the bars onboard or it will cost you a much higher price. Room service is the cheapest route to go.

One Phantom Booking still open with Princess.

You also can buy it @ the ships shop and for a fee of $9.00(?) you can take it back to your room.

cruzfiend,
Are you talking Princess here? I've never been able to buy in the shops for consumption in my cabin on Princess. I know HAL allows this, but not Princess?

It has been two years since we've been on Princess, so I don't know for sure. We were on the AOS in January and that was the policy then. Also, for your information there is a duty free shop at the port in SJ to purchase before you get on - which we did and had no problem, in fact, the cruise people told us where to go!!!
