Yes I know, a topic beaten to death by the best of us. I'm curious, I'm booked on the CP for 11/27/04 in a BC gaurantee. I called Princess and my entire category is sold out, but there are tons of cabins above us available. What are the chances of upgrade? I'm totally happy with the category we booked at, however it's not far under a mini suite and there's lots of them available

The fact that your category is sold out is not really a factor, one of the sales is YOU.

The fact that the ones above you is open is significant, as long as those don't sell on a last minute sale of some kind will be the key because if there is no where to move you they can't.

Then such factors as past pax status, amount paid and back to back cruises come into play.

In general whoever paid the most for their cabin has the best chance to move up, which is a paradox, you are happy that you get an upgrade but have to suspect that you were kinda overpaying earlier on.

Let's say you booked a BD @$900 pp, all of them fill over a few months, some people pay as low as $750 on promotions that you were never aware of, BA's go on sale because they weren't filling at $1100 and are $875 just before sailing, you get "upgraded" and those who paid less don't.

This is an example, there are many other factors it is rare that more than a few % of cabins get moved after docs, why would Princess makea lot of work for themselves? Most upgrades aren't a big deal, BD to BA is just a deck thing mostly, well sometimes the shower gets a tub for company.

Overall, the upgrade concern I feel does as much injury as benefit, lots of people quietly hoping that feel vaguely slighted when they get what they pay for. As for us, any cabin that leaves the dock with the ship is just fine.

Srphnx and GottoCruise: I don't think most people do realize that those who paid more are more likely to get an upgrade. Until I started participating in these boards, I certainly didn't. I did get a few upgrades that started with an AD mini on the diamond and has now ended up as a premium suite. However, I was perfectly content with the mini and would have been happy to stay there and paid a lower rate. I thought I got a good deal to begin with, but who knows what others have paid for the same thing. So many variables, thousands of ta's looking for your business. This will be my 11th princess cruise, and I booked over a year in advance and did get a number of price reductions since I originally booked this cruise So I would like to think the upgrade is my reward rather than because I paid more than others. Also, the mini's sold out very rapidly on my cruise. Whatever you pay, you will always find someone else who paid less. I guess if we feel satisfied with our own deal, that's what's important. That and to have a wonderful cruise which I intend to have. That being said, you can be sure I'll be doing more "shopping around" before I book my next cruise. Thanks for the insight.
