Has anyone had any experience using these locks?
Have used them domestically, but am curious about the leg from LAX to Papeete.
Thanks.

LAX to Papeete was fine...after security x-ray we were escorted to the ticket counter where we were allowed to replace locks onto luggage. Very different situation in Papeete for flight back to LAX. NO LOCKS ALLOWED! You wait in line to have luggage x-rayed, then most bags are hand searched, then you proceed to the check-in counter where they do not allow locks because they might need to search your bag again! DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING valuable in your checked luggage at this airport!!! (many reports of missing items)
You then must walk outside the secure area with your carry-ons to get to the terminal entrance & customs. Once thru customs you must wait in another security line where almost all carry-ons are hand searched (most bags were totally unpacked).
The process only takes about 45 min but seems endless when it's hot & humid.

I have started to use small plastic wire ties. If TSA wants to remove them they can easily do this. They can be cut off with a fingernail clipper, which I put in the outside pocket of a suitcase. I use a felt tip pen to color them, I use the clear plastic ties. This way I know if they have been taken off and replaced. I have also been able to break the tie by using a pen in the loop and giving a hard jerk in it. Locks do not stop people from getting in your luggage, they just let you know if your luggage has been opened. Sometimes I also take photos (digital) of what is in the suitcase, print them out and put a copy in the suitcase.

Ocean.queen: this is a very helpful reply. Have heard also that security in Papeete is problematic!
Fred: we've used the ties successfully, also. No problems.
Thanks for your help.
