We are going on the 8/14 Princendam cruise that stops in Libya and were wondering how that situation has played out. We had heard several reports that they made the Americans remain on the ship during stops (on other lines) because of problems with the US and Libyan goverments.
Has anyone heard if they are now allowing Americans ( well, those from the USA) off the ship in Tripoli.
Thanks for the info.

Ed/Jeff; take a look at these links (if you have not yet already done so) Can't help you with specific info once you get to Tripoli, Libya but should be a very interesting port of call, have a great cruise! Looks like you'll be getting on Prinsendam in Lisbon as we're getting off her

John,
Thanks, I had just read both of those sites. Still was unclear about what is going on, guess I will have to call the State department and ask. I had read an article somewhere that said the US citizens were denied acess on a cruise while all others were allowed to disembark.
I have the number for the Libyan office at the UN and will check with them.
I really look forward to the Prinsendam. I hope you have a great cruise and I know you will leave her in great shape for us :D

You might want to check out the CC Africa board. There is a thread there regarding Tripoli. I am hoping to see Leptus Magna in October. Good luck and have a wonderful cruise.

There was a thread in May, I believe, that said that the US and Libya were starting to normalize everything. US was supposed to open an Embassy there.
What happened to that ? Has it gone bad again ?

Wowzo,
You are correct. the announcement was made on May 15, 2006. The plan is that there will be a 45 day waiting period and then an American embassy will open in Tripoli unlesss something unforseen happens. So far, so good.
