Well, we just got back yesterday and finally got a good night sleep, so I'm ready to go and give you all a fair review of my personal opinions of the Caribbean Princess, so here goes.
4 days before the cruise we were upgraded from a inside II to a Outside DD this cabin was E109 Starboard side forward, and as you all know E stands for Emerald and if you look at the Deck plans this is right above the Princess Theatre, we only heard the music while we were walking to our cabin or from our cabin. So the upgrade was nice.
we left a day early from New York LaGuardia and ended up on having a 2 hr delay because American Airlines had to replace a Flap Actuator. The delay sucked especially having our 2 boys with us.
When we Finally arrived in Fll we stayed at the Bahia Cabana Beach Resort (Days Inn) which the Hotel is a Water Taxi Stop. We did the usual we went to Beach Place for Dinner and Coctails and we decided to walk the mile back to the hotel instead of the water Taxi it was gourgous weather outside.
The next morning we went to the ship around 10:45 and there must of had been 4 to 500 people in front of us. When the doors finally opened at 11:30 it took us about 15 minutes to get to the check in agent who gave my wife a hard time about her birth certificate, it is a NJ Certificate but she was born in Canada and adopted, we never had a problem before, they wanted her to have a passport, I had her call her supervisor over and he didn't know what to do, so he had to get his supervisor and than they said it was fine and I explained to them we have always cruised this way. Of course they blamed 9/11 for this and than I took their heads off and told them that this is our 3rd cruise since 9/11 and then They gave us our cruise cards and we walked away we looked at our cards and noticed she gave us the wrong cards since we were upgraded, she gave us the cards of the people that were in our old cabin, and went back and she appologized and gave us the correct cards.
After the Normal welcome aboard Photo the crew was directing us to the elevators to go to our cabins, while we did'nt want to go but instead go and Make our Dinner Reservations for Sabatini's for Mothers Day and Dining room reservations for the rest of the week, No problem we had a standind reservation in the Dining room every evening for 6 and Also Sabatini's. When we got to the cabin The beds were not put into the config I wanted so I called the cabin steward and he said he would see what he can do, That evening we had a Lobster Claw and Crab Legg feast in the Horizon Court, it was delicious. We went to the Welcome aboard show and there were the chair hogs. This person had 15 seats reserved, and i explained the Law of the Sea to him, my wife wanted me to relax but I couldn't, so I wipped out my Patter and showed him where it says no reserving of seats and he didn't care so The cruise staff saw a little comotion going on because they were trying to get everyone in and I explained it to them and because none of his people were there yet they made him move all the way in and sat us and 10 other people. (Who says there is no justice).
We got back to our cabin and the beds were not done the way we wanted which was the queen config on the bottom with the bunks coming down. We slept that way.
The next morning I was up at 5am and went to take a shower and noticed there was no soap or shampoo in the cabin, I used my wifes shampoo as soap and then went down to the passenger service desk and spoke to Manuel and by the time I had my coffee and walked around a bit he had it sitting outside my cabin Like I told him to. So as you all know by know Our Steward was the Worst we ever had. Usually the steward is waiting in the hailway the first day to welcome you aboard and introduce themselves but he was no where to be found.
The 2nd day we were in Princess Cays and had a wonderful time we were on the First Passenger Tender ashore we didn't have any problems. However once ashore I noticed the got rid of all of the hammocks and replaced them with chairs under the huts, I was looking forward to swinging in the hammocks and drinking Bahama Mama's all day so instead I sat in a lounge chair and drank Bahama MAma's.
We went on the Banana Boat and had a blast My wife Paula and 2 son's A.J. 7 and T.J. 13 had a great time on our way back in we hit a wave and everyone on the right fell off including myself and my son A.J. As soon as we were in the water they had a waverunner out to us and checking on us and the banana boat came around and they got us back on.
We ate lunch and headed back to the ship because we had our Lotus Spa appointments.
My wife and I booked a 50 min swedish massage and we went a hr earlier so we could use their relaxation rooms, it was wonderful. I did't want to leave.
We had dinner at Sabatini's that night for the 4 of us we new the Waiter from the Dawn Princess and he greeted us by name. His name was Felipe. The food as you all know was out of this world and of course my wife and I split a 2nd dinner which was a seafood delight. Afterward we walked around the ship and had some coctails, we ran into Captain Romano and he said welcome back aboard, and said I looked familiar to him and we told him we sailed with him on the Grand in 2002, he said hello to the boys and after about 10 minutes of getting interupted he excused himself and went on his way.
We headed back to our cabin and the beds still were not done the way we wanted them done.
Monday sea day) I was up early again and went down and saw Manny and told him about it and he said he would get it done and he did.
I got us 3 chairs by the Calypso pool(Movies under the Stars) and we stayed there all day. THey showed a cuople of videos but mainly they did a exercise class on the deck above us and her her voice over the speakers and than they set up the band to play there, they did their pool games there and played vollyball also.
We left around 4 to get ready for our first formal night and Captains welcome aboard Party,
Once dressed we headed to deck 6 and was right across from where the Captain Spoke, but before he spoke he walked up to my 2 boys and said hello and than he Invited us to the Bridge Wing on Friday at 4:30 and said he will send us a Invitation. How Cool is This!
We had dinner in the Coral Dining Room. The show afterwards was their New Caribbean Caliente and it was great.
Afterward we took the Kids to see the Magician James Michael (we saw him on the Grand in 2002 and he is the best there is) My son was up helping him and I was involved in another gag also. We than called it a night.
Tuesday Montego Bay.
We took the Jamaican PArty Cruise and had a great ime snorkling the crew was great we even stopped at Margarativille and thought that was a joke so we went back to the ship and had lunch than we took a cab into town and we were attacked by hundreds of Jamaicans it made my boys feel very uncomfortable, we looked in a couple of stores and than decided it was 2 much going on all around us we headed back to the security of the Caribbean Princess. That night we had Jose the Asst Maitre'd who we new from the Dawn Princess change our 6:00 reservation until 8:30 because the kids wanted to do the Wizard of Oz Sing Along what fun we had. We went to dinner and than to Island night which they moved into Club Fusion, because a threat of rain.
Once we got to the club it was so packed we could not even move around so we gave up on the way out we saw Adam from the cruise directors staff and said they can ruin the equiptment if they have it outside and I said the band played under tents they set up but he had no answer. So we went and listened to a band in another lounge and than off to bed.
Wednesday Grand Cayman (2nd Formal)
we booked a private tour thru Soto's for Stingray City. $24.00 PP. THey picked us up to the right of the Tender Pier and we did 3 snorkel stops 1 was to the gardens, 2 the Barrier Reef and 3rd stingray city, they were a bunch of fun.
They took us back and we had 3 hrs for shopping. We bought 6 Liters of alcohol and 6 blackbeard rum cakes. than we went back to the ship to get ready for Formal night and the Captains Circle Party.
Once we said hello to the Captain again, we said hello to paul and since no one was behind me I asked him about Graham Seymore and he said he is coming onboard in 2 weeks I also asked about Frankie and if he was going to be promoted to a CD and he said Frankie is lacking some skills and he is great in the position he is in he is probaly the best Deputy Cruise Director the fleet has. But he has some issues in Managments Eye's to become a CD. ( Sorry All). We ate dinner than saw the Marriage Show and the Magician again in a it was even better than the first show. IT was Rated PG13 and that was for a reason, he lost his Pants twice and was wearing a thong.
Thursday Cozumel.
We ended up renting a Jeep for the day it was 66.00 since we been there before many times we wanted to see the rest of the Island.
The other side was pretty there wewe restaurants every couple of miles so you can stop and have some beers overlooking the sea.
We went to the ruins but that was really not interesting at all (Chi Ch Nitzu on the Mainland Mexico is better) we had lunch in town and walked around than we dropped off the rental car and spen time on the Pier shopping and having coctails in fat Tuesdays.
Once back on Ship we went to dinner and saw the Hypnotist show and we thought it was the worst show we ever saw. It was just 2 fake. After that we had Movies under the stars reservations and saw Intolerable Cruelty, we had some stall cold popcorn and the kids ordered candy $1.95 each. Afterwards we headed back to the Cabin.
Friday last sea day.
We sat at the Neptune pool all day there was this lady with her 3 kids next to us which one of the kids kept telling her how stupid she was, If that were my kids I would have done something. But anyway my wife and I went into the pool when we came back one of her kids was sitting in my lounge chair, I was furious and she said why, I said why back to her because your son Sat on my had and destroyed it and my new Sunglass which was under that he bent the frame she didn't even say sorry. We left early and Got changed because we were going to the bridge. When we got there the Captain had invited a coiple of more people I would say there was about 10 to 12 of us altogether. It is amazing up there the views of the ship are gorgeous we learned how most of the ships functions are there we learned about the GPS systems on board and there is so much to talk about we even saw the control for the Web Cam Thekids were able to stand at the helm and sit in the chairs. We went to dinner and spent the rest of the night at the Piano Bar.
Saturday the shipped arrived at 6:00 Am we had breakfast in the dining room and were off of the ship at 8:15am After we got our luggage, the Captain came over to us and said Good-bye.
When we went thru the finals customs check with our luggage 1 of the Drug Dogs came over and sniffed my 13yr old from head to toe and my son started petting him because he didn't know anybetter the customs agent was a jerk and told him not to touch the dog. we were at the airport in10 minutes and on our way home from a Great Cruise.

PS my son used the 7- 9 year old kids club on both sea days and had a great time.
My 13 yr old went to the teen club twice and was board.

THere is NO ARCADE ONBOARD and won't be according to the Kid's club director because they have PS2's.

The pool wait staff were not pushy at all.

Any questions please ask.

Both children and adults should be informed that drug, explosive sniffing dogs are working, and not allowed to be petted. It is sad, I would want to do it too. They are beautiful. But that is what our world is now, and will continue into the future.

Where did you go to make your dining room reservations for the week when you went onboard? Was it for PC dining? I"m traveling with a group of 11 and I'd like to make sure we get a standing reservation.. thank you

Steve, you can just call the concierge on your phone in the cabin. Or just do it at the Coral Dining Room on Deck 6, They do make Specialty restaurant Reservations at Sabatini's on Deck 7 starting at 1:00 PM on Bording Day.

Tom, thanks for taking time for your review. Which method did you use to make your dinner reservations? The first few sailings complained that the concierge line was constantly busy or no one would pick up. Also, if you have PC, you can make a few nights in one dining room and the other few nights in the other dining room, right? Thanks

Just back from the 5/8 sailing. It was our 3rd on Princess and it was wonderful. The spa has thermal beds which look very uncomfortable but are great. They are tiled heated beds that my husband and I relaxed on before and after our massages. Loved the CP.

I too just got back from that magnificent cruise. I'm sorry about your room steward, mine was wonderful. When you were seeing the magician were you the people in the front row with the kids that were dancing? That show was really PG 13, I think it should have been rated R with the sexual content involved (not just him losing his pants). I enjoyed Phil Teg, did you see him? Best comic on the ship (my opinion). I can't wait to get back on the Caribbean Princess again to go on her Eastern Itinerary. The great thing about this ship is that at not one time, did I feel that I was on the ship with over 3,000 people, did you have the same feeling?

Whoa, the heated seats were tile, but I found that to be more comfortable than my own bed at home, maybe the way that they were curved, but wow they were nice.

We loved this cruise! This was our first Princess cruise and my husband and I were very impressed. We thought the service was excellent and all the staff were very friendly. The food was by far the best we've ever had on any cruise, and in our opinion, Sabatini's was well worth the extra money.

There were plenty of activities on board and so much to do in the evening it was hard to choose. I loved the movies under the stars, even if the popcorn was a little stale. The entertainers were all very good. I enjoyed Club Fusion and wound up spending most of the day there on Friday!

I booked a guarantee balcony cabin, and was thrilled to be on Caribe deck C-310! The room was the largest we've ever had and so was the balcony! The fact that the balcony is visible by the people above us and below us didn't matter at all (we're not exhibitionists).

We're booked to go on Celebrity Constellation for the third time in December (another beautiful ship), but we're seriously considering cancelling that cruise to go back on Caribbean Princess.

No complaints here -- very pleased and impressed!

Thanks for the great reviews!

Could someone who's been on the Western itinerary please post the order of the dinners. My wife and I would like to take advantage of Sabatini's and Sterling Steakhouse (and maybe even a balcony dinner), but don't want to miss the special dinners in the dining room. Knowing the order (what night is Italian? Caribbean?) will really help when we make reservations after boarding.

Less than 2 weeks 'til we're enjoying the CP!!

Thanks for the review Tom. How did you like the hotel? Was the beach close enough to walk to? How did you get to the port?

Thanks again!!

Did anyone who has already been on the Caribbean Princess stay in the Suites on the Riviera Deck? Curious for any details as to stewards, afternoon snacks, balcony details and overall service. Thanks!

My husband and I had a balcony room on the Riviera Deck (R 504). Our steward was Erlich, very friendly and on top of everything. Every steward that we ran into was always smiling and was so nice to us. I peeked into a suite, and for the money...you would be better off just getting a balcony room, it is just a nice and the balcony is just as large. I loved being on the Riviera deck, when it rained, it didn't rain on you, you were on top of the ship and had the most beautiful of a view of the horizon...the only down fall was we heard (every now and then...not all the time) people walking on the Lido deck (the deck with all the pools). I would recommend R 504, R 506 or any veriation near those numbers, you don't have to take an elevator to get to the pools and you won't kill your self if you want to take the stairs, it is only one floor. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Also your room steward will leave a fruit menu that you put outside your door at night and when you come back from breakfast the number of fruit you requested will be in your room. ONE THING...DON'T FORGET TO EAT THE PIZZA, BEST PIZZA EVER!!! I am from South Jersey and very closed to south Philly, and they know how to do pizza but this is THE BEST pizza I have ever had.

I don't remember what order dinner was in, but it was the night they had caribbean night (the night you will be in Jamaica), the other people at our table said that we didn't miss anything. So perhaps you would like to try Sabitini's that night...and I didn't go to the steakhouse, but that hasn't been getting rave reviews so I would say skip it and do the dinner on your balcony...it is so romantic, and the best experience you will ever have on a cruise. It will cost you a bit more money, but if I could stress anything to do...that is a MUST, that is it.

This was my husband and my first cruise and my in-laws 14th...this is the best cruise that they have ever been on and they have been on several lines and certainly the best vacation that I have ever had. I cried knowing I had to get off the ship the next day...I did not want to leave. We are already looking into doing a double itinerary (Eastern/Western) on the Caribbean Princess in the very very very near future.

If you have any questions on the Western Itinerary or the ship, you can post here or e-mail me MoodyMin@comcast.net. I will be happy to provide you with any information you may crave. Viva La Caribbean Princess!!!

I forgot to mention in my post that we never stepped foot in any of the restaurants. We loved Cafe Caribe so much we ate there every night except for the two nights we ate at Sabatini's. We made our reservations for Sabatini's shortly after boarding for that evening and also for Thursday. The first night was pretty empty -- the waiters even took time to sing to us! On Thursday there were empty tables although it was more crowded and the only song we heard was Happy Birthday. Some people we met said they were able to get a reservation for that night with no problem.

Formal nights didn't seem to be as dressy on this ship as on the other ships we've cruised. But perhaps that's because we didn't eat in the dining room.

Chris,
In the Spa if you get there before your appointment, you can use the relaxation rooms 1 is a room with a group of Radiant Heat Ceramic Loungers with low heat rising from them you just lay down and the heat just gets to every muscle and feels great also it is very very quiet in there, you are allowed to try them when you board the ship. Also they have a couples only Sauna and a Mens and Womans also.

Roe2Ship, I knew the assistant Maitre'd in the Coral DIning Room (Jose) and he told me the earlier problems were: 1 They implemented a new reservation system and it was not worling correctly for the first 3 cruises also The Original PC Restaurants were THe Island and the Coral each only holds up to 450 Passengers full the 3rd dining room the Palm was for traditional seating which holds 600 Passengers, So what they did was switch the Island to Traditional and the Palm to PC.
No one had a problem with calling the concierge for reservations, for the main dining, I also switched times once during the cruise and they had no problems doing so.

Moodymin, I had the 2 boys we were seated up to the left of the stage, yea maybe you are right about the R rating but there was no nudity so PG 13 fitted the show, I know all the suggestions he put out there are deffinetly R. Phil was very funny we only saw him the first night, we barely had enough time to sleep, there was just to much to do on the ship. The ship felt a little crowded the last sea day, but not like 3600 Passengers. we rarely had any lines anywhere.

Scott, The beach was right across the street from the lobby, there is a light right there and in about 50' your feet is in the sand.
THe Hotel is a old style florida Hotel with 2 floors. They have a great bar that overlooks the Marina also the restaurant overlooks the Marina. The only issue I had is they only have 13' TV's in the Room and the Bathroom only has a stand up shower.

We were on the Caribbean last week. Two things to add. French night in the dining rooms has been changed to Caribbean night so there is no more raspberry creme brulee - it has been changed to pineapple brulee. Also, if you want a table for two in personal choice, take the outside aft elevators down to deck 6 to the Palm Dining Room - we went at a different time each night (prime time) and Mauro, the head waiter seated us immediately each time. The second night of the cruise, we went to the Coral dining room and had to wait 20 minutes.

Tom, We will be taking our kids(16,14,9) on 9/1/04 (Eastern). Could you elaborate a bit more on the kids programS, The kids fair, dining with the kids (what nights do they offer for the kids to eat at the clubs, kids menus), and any other relevant info. Thanks for the wonderful review. We are all so excited that we can't stand it.

This thread was linked to one discussing the staff member. My point was it was unfortunate that the poster felt it necessary to post comments which should have been kept private on a public forum. It’s got nothing to do with supporting or bashing the staff member.

But now that you mention it, those kinds of comments should be deleted.

Hey BD. I know you are not supporting or bashing but with almost 3000 posts I am sure you have seen hundreds if not thousands of threads go off topic. It happens all the time and I could very easily see the thread head off into that direction. Frankie seems, to me, to be one of the hot buttons that send a topic "overboard". http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Anyway enough of that....

Tom I'm not sure if a teen has to be registered with the kids center but if so do you know what the time of registration was (or if not do you still know?) We will need to register our 7 and 11 year olds and the last time we took them it ran right into the start of the early welcome aboard show. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Aquarian--you mentioned you ate at tables for two for dinner, and I'm wondering if those tables are very close to others? I've noticed in some of the dining room pictures that the square tables for two are so close it would seem hard to enjoy a romantic dinner for two?? Maybe others who were in the PC dining rooms could also elaborate?! Thanks. Amanda http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Moodymin,

Thanks SO MUCH for the response to my question re: dining order. We're sailing on Saturday 5/29, and our 25th anniversary is the following Wednesday (formal night). Per your suggestion, I'm going to schedule a balcony dinner, probably for Tuesday night (when leaving Jamaica). Is Sabatini's nice enough for us to enjoy a formal dinner on our anniversary, or should we stick with the dining room on formal night?

Also, did you experience the Spa? On the Star Princess in Alaska last August, the Spa had "couples massages" that were advertised in daily handouts (I don't think it was included in the Patter), and I'm wondering if a similar treatment is available on the CP.

We'll be in a PH suite on the Riviera deck--will try to post a review after our return.

Thanks again for the review!

You'd know BD....you're much more the regular here then I!!! I don't read the boards often as I'd like, only spurts here and there. It just seemed to me that the topics often seemed to wander a lot. Must be on one of those other boards (of which none are as good as CC!!!) that I was thinking about. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

bdjam,
I cruised with Frankie on the Grand 2002 and thought he was great and one day Make a great CD, So when I was on the Caribbean Princess I asked Paul about him, because of the 3 new ships hopefully he would have been promoted, but then that is what Paul Told me.
The Idea of these boards is to give us The Paying Passengers as much information as possible, I always got great info from these boards, I knew that going on the Caribbean Princess That Paul was a Lame Cruise Director but he is also been with Princess 25 yrs and sets up the CD Staff, he was rarely seen by anybody on the ship. But theses boards is where I learned about Paul before I went so I didn't expect much from him.
If You have a problem hearing the truth, I think that is your issue.
This has been a very informative thread, so far the review is as truthful as possible in MY OPINION, it was a great cruise.

If You have a problem hearing the truth, I think that is your issue.

I have no problem at all hearing the truth. Truth is one thing – compassion and friendship is another. Posting this “truth” did nothing to advance your review for the “paying passenger” or to communicate any pertinent information about Paul or Frankie. All it did was publicize gossip.

The fact that you state Paul is less than your idea of a top Cruise Director makes me question even further why you posted the details of your conversation about Frankie with him. If that’s what Paul chose to communicate to you, then I think Paul made an error. I take discussions of the performance of staff members and relations with management as confidential things. What is worse is the fact that you chose to advertise your conversation by posting it on the internet. If you are as fond of Frankie as you seem to be, I would think good taste would warrant you keeping these kinds of posts off the board.

I can take the truth, but there’s a time and place for it. What I can’t take is my friend being hurt by overzealous posters.

Of course by debating this with you, I'm perpetuating the issue...so I'm done.
