View Full Version : Is Disney really worth the extra $$$$?

Dh and I have been married for almost 12 years and have wanted to cruise since forever, but with children we've never been able to get away. So the only family "vacation" that we've been on has been to Disney World in 2004 and we loved it and would like to go back again some day. We were actually thinking of going this year, but have decided to wait till the boys are old enough to enjoy some more of the "thrill" type rides.
Anyway, so we figured we'd go on a cruise instead and of course Disney was our first thought, from watching the Disney planning video. We would likely wait till Dec. of 2007 to go for weather reasons (dh's holidays this year are in October).
Anyway.....I figured I should at least look at other cruise lines as well and have found that a lot of them seem really great too. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess.......and would each be about $1000 cheaper for the 4 of us than Disney is.
So.....at the time of cruising my boys will be 9 and 11. Is it really worth the extra $$ to do the Disney cruise? or would we be just as happy on a less expensive cruise?
I'm having such a hard time deciding since I can find so much info on Disney, but not as much on the others. PLEASE........can somebody help???:(

9 and 11 are perfect for DCL. The things they have for those age groups are awesome!! The new Ocean Quest is really a hit. It is a virtual reality place where kids can do many things, including sit in the captains chair and dock the ship!! The clubs have lots of free time as well as organized events for the kids. My GS loved making flubber and hearing Ghost stories out on the secret deck at the back of the ship!!! Too many things to list. I believe you can now see Navigators on the DCL website which will give you an idea of activities for adults and kids. Kids have their own Navigators.
Pirate night is a awesome party for everyone where all of you can dress as pirates, with music and dancing, skits on deck 9, with a ate night buffet and FIREWORKS fired from the ship. DCL is the ONLY cruise lineto do this! Then at least on the Magic they play the Pirates of the Caribbean movie on the Dumbotron outdoor movie screen.
Great food, so many things to do you cant possibly do them all, not even 1/2. We have done 12 DCL cruises and we still havnt done it all!!!
The friendlinessof the staff if A+.
I would suggest the 7 dayEastern because you get an extra sea day to do lots of things on the ship. St.Maatin and St. Thomas are beautiful islands with awesome beaches to see as well as many fun excursions to do.
I think that for teenagers there is more to do on RCCL, but for your kids ages, DCL offers more for them to do. I have not sailed RCCL, but I have done an extensive search on them and we have friends who just came back form a RCCL cruise too.
For us it is worth the extra $$$ because of the overall experience and atmosphere on board. It is just too hard to put into words, you just have to experience it for yourself to understand. But after 1 cruise, you will be hooked, just like the rest of us!!!

I have cruised DCL once kids where 15 and 13 and they loved it. There was so much to do, service was always top notch, food and shows amazing. However, that being said I am a Disney addict so that is why we took this route. Once the cruise was over and we where leaving I remember saying to DH, it was great but not sure if it was worth and in our case we could have cruised another cruise line for $1200 less the additional cost.
I have cruised once since on Celebration but that was just DH and myself and not really a fair comparison because Celebration is a older ship.
I am booked on Miracle in October so will have a better comparision.
Now that being said again, DD and I are going on Magic again next October...but like I said I am a disney freak.
Disney really is a great cruiseline and you won't be disappointed and with the age of your kids it would be my choice.

My first reaction is that DCL is definitely worth it if you have kids that age. My wife is a Disney freak--but I am not. I loved the ship anyway. I also loved looking at my kids faces and seeing how happy they were when we were dancing with Mickey and Minnie, playnig in the Mickey pool, etc., etc. Very fond memories my family shares of those trips!

Is Disney worth the extra money?
We thought so. We are grandparents who took the 7 night package (3 in the park, 4 on the Disney Magic) as sort of a preview for a future family cruise.
Very good separation between adults and youngsters if you want.

For the ages of your kids, Disney is worth the extra. We've had a wonderful time on all of our RCCL cruises but our 11 year old daughter still talks about that 3 days we spent on the Disney Wonder! Good luck with your decision. Anywhere you have your family will be a great time!!

I must admit that I wondered the same question after we booked the 7 day Disney Magic. We flew the whole family down from Alaska and it was well worth it. Our grandchildren, 4 and 11, had a ball. In fact, we all did.
This was our son's family first cruise and they still talk about it. No one can beat Disney for entertainment. Other posters have given RCCL high marks and we will are thinking about booking a Voyager class for the next grandchild grouping.
While it was expensive, it gave us memories that will last a life time.

My family did our very first cruise in April on RCCL Explorer and we absolutely loved it.. We are booked on the magic for 2007 and i am wondering how it will compare....it is def. more expensive.....we will see.... But if you do choose a different cruise line, I highly recommend RCCL Explorer.....:D

My DD 9 loved all three Kids clubs, with perhaps RCCL edging out Carnival and Disney coming in slightly behind the other two. It is really about what your kids will like. If they like the magic of Disney then it might be worth it. If they are more into the physical activity stuff then RCCL may offer them more choices with the Rock Climbing wall, etc. :)

I think you hit it on the nail! do at least one Disney cruise and if that is too steep to go again, try another line, Carnival is a very good value for young families, Royal Caribbean is better for teens and if the OP wants to go just her and hubby, try Celebrity.
We really loved the old world look of the Disney Wonder-it was made to put you in mind of the old ocean liners.

I had the same question too. Hubby and I love disney and get FL resident discounts but are Diamond on RCI and like the benefits there too. They have a great Western It with the Key West and a long time in both KW and Cozumel are 2 favortie places plus it is just a 7 hour drive for us verses 12 for Miami. So in Oct we are going to give it a try. We may one do one disney cruise but I want to say I have done it. We don't have any kids so I hope we can plenty to do!

From a different perspective...
Our first cruise was with Disney and it was wonderful, but i really don't feel it was worth the extra money we spent. Here are some of the differences....
Disney kids program remains open as long as there are activities going on, this is great if you have children that are to young to stay by themselves so you can get involved in some of the night activities.
Other lines tend to close down thier kids programs around 9-10pm and for short periods throughout the day. Allthough they do offer plenty of things for the kids to do during the day. MY children enjoyed both programs for different reasons, and have never lacked for anything to do during the entire trip on any line.
Disney fails to get the adult participation in the activities like on other lines. Which is understandable since Disney is more family orientated and families tend to spend more family time together.
Disney has no casino, if you don't gamble then it isn't a problem.
The food is wonderful on all the cruise lines.
Service is wondeful on all the cruise lines, but Disney was just a tad more attentive.
If your looking for the overall Disney experience then i would say go for it, because thats what your paying for.
If your looking for a cruise experience then it's not worth the extra money.
Although they have a wonderful cruise line, you can end up paying double what you might pay on another line.
It is a experience that i won't forget because it was or first cruise, but I Would rather spend the extra money in the ports then on the cruise itself. JMO

I have been on the Disney cruise more times than I can count. Finally, just last month I took my first NON Disney cruise on Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas. I consider myself a huge Disney Fan and spent the whole time comparing (drove my traveling companion crazy). Here is what I found:
No one beats Disney for that "WOW" experience.
The minute you get to Port Canaveral you are so excited. The Port is beautiful, I have seen the characters walking around greeting you. You enter the ship through a mouse shaped entrance. They really know how to build up the excitement.
The RCI port was a blank grey warehouse
On the Disney ship you walk right into the beautiful atrium. You are announced, people are clapping. You feel special and awed at the same time.
On RCI we entered into a hallway (A very nice hallway) and a crew member advised you "Your rooms are ready the elevator is to the left"
The Disney Sailaway Party was a PARTY! Characters, Dancing, Music and streamers, everyone cheering!
On Royal Caribbean there was a band playing.
Also the service on Disney could not be beat. The service was very nice on RCI, absolutely nothing to complain about, however a noticable difference from Disney. They really exceed your expectations.
These are just a few examples. On the other side:
I though the RCI ship was much more impressive with it's mini golf course, 2 specialty restaurants, rock climbing wall and sheer size! I also thought the food was a little better than Disney, however, not by that much. RCI also had more food available more of the time with more choices, however, we could not eat it because we were so stuffed!
I know how expensive a Disney Cruise is and my opinion is it is something you can do with the family once in a lifetime. Just like we took our first Royal Caribbean Cruise in Alaska! A once in a lifetime experience. Sure we will be paying it off for a bit but that was an unforgetable experience. Disney is like that for families. The charcters are everywhere, their kids programs can not be beat. It is very special.

We have sailed princess, RCCL (x2) and Disney. After disembarking RCCL's Voyager - I went home and booked the Magic for November.
In my mind, nothing comes close to Disney -- especially with kids. For example, the kids program is simply outstanding in every way. 9am to 1am nonstop! -- as compared to three three hour sessions on Carnival and RCCL. For us, that was huge. Our kids were having the time of their life with Mickey and the gang, which allowed my wife and I to spend seven days reconnecting as a couple -- guilt free.
I think Disney's service is fifty times better than RCCL. There is a feeling of "we care about you as a customer" on Disney. An example of this: On the last day, RCCL's disembarkation is ABSURD. Disney's good-bye is smooth and easy -- as though they really thought it out.
The shows on Disney are Broadway quality (and I have theater degree). RCCL is Las Vegas cabaret quality - at best.
Disney caters to families -- so they specialize in this target audience. RCCL is all over the map with no particular specialty. And, it shows.
RCCL is not bad -- but, it's just not Disney.
I could go on -- but, you get the point. For me, the extra $1000 (which is not chump change) is SO worth it. Those seven days are the most important of the year for me and my family -- so, spending $1000 more is well worth it.

We did our first cruise last year on Disney and I cannot tell you how much we enjoyed the ship. We are planning our second cruise this September to Alaska and I have to tell you that I am learning to appreciate Disney even that much more. For instance, I just learned they allow smoking in all the rooms on the cruiseline we are going on... Its understood they do everything to get the smell out of the room, but that is something I took for granted with Disney as smoking wasn't allowed in the rooms. Also, on Disney, you don't have to pay for soda. They have a soda station open all the time with soda and it is also free with meals. On the cruise line we're going in Sept., you don't even get soda free with dinner. Plus, the Disney embarkation/disembarkation process is so smooth. Little things, but they all add up for a most enjoyable experience! I don't think you will be disappointed.

DF and her family of 5 are going on a cruise in August. She and DH have twin beds. Huh? The cabin looks small. They're sailing out of NY. Bleck.
I know it's expensive. Well aware of it. However, last year we got early booking, repeat cruiser stateroom credit and AAA matched the stateroom credit.
Many people have come back from their cruises and been happy but none too many people come back with beaming smiles. I don't need a rockwall or skating rink - I'm escaping from snow! I love DCL and am afraid to switch. Why mess with a good thing? We book early and I work a part time job for our mad money. I have no regrets!
Oh, did I mention the fresh water pool(s), Mickey Bars, fireworks, Pirates of the Caribbean Party, captain's gala, character breakfast and FREE SODA??
IMHO yes, it's worth my extra $$.

I agree w/ the vast majority of the prior comments and add one more - - when comparing DCL's prices to those of other lines, bear in mind that the cabins are more comparable to mini-suites on other lines.

We had inside cabin and it was by far the smallest cabin of all our cruises. I would not compare them to a mini suite at all. Not to get me wrong they were nice and comparable to other lines. But to say they are comparable to a mini suite on other lines is misleading to a first time disney cruiser.

From my standpoint, I was glad I tried it. It was everything Disney, as expected, with great service and a beautiful ship.
After my DD (now 7) had been on 4 cruises, 2 on Disney, and 2 on Carnival, I asked her which one she liked better. Her answer: All of them! So, Disney didn't make a mark on her one way or the other.
So we booked Carnival.
So it comes down to, do you want a cruise experience, or do you want a Disney cruise experience?

I could have written the post from gfsmith!
After doing a Back to Back with the Magic and one week in WDW. We decided that for the money, we would rather have a grand suite on a brand new RCCL ship and do a week at WDW at the Wilderness Lodge.
So that's what we do now. We book WDW for a week. Then we take a cruise with RCCL. There is just so much more to do on the Voyager class ships that I found myself bored on the Magic. And I'm sorry, but comparing Serenade (like a previous poster did) to a newer ship like the Magic is not comparing the same thing. No wonder the "wow" factor wasn't there. We'll be doing the Freedom of the Seas in April and I KNOW the wow factor is there. Even by looking at the web site, you can't deny this is a big WOW.
www.freedomoftheseas.com (http://www.freedomoftheseas.com)
Doing the Magic was nice once. My older daughter was in Princess heaven for the week. But she honestly had more fun on land at WDW than on the ship. So it just makes sense that for us that when we want Disney, we got to WDW. When we want a cruise, we go with RCCL.

Disney did it all well! Loved the ship, and we got the total experience. Disney Wonder was spectacular. But, for us, the value isn't worth the extra compared to Radiance and Voyager class ships on RCI. We're back on RCI this fall. Would do Disney again, but would have to with a group like last time in order to have a reason to.

The Serenade went into service in 2003, the Magic in 1998. Was the poster referring to the Sovereign, a 1988 build?
Anyway, we were on the Magic once and loved it. But we see no reason to do it again since the "magic" will not be there the 2nd time. And look at my tag line, says it all.

We have been on two Disney cruises (4 night and 7 night) as well as two Royal Caribbeans (Voyager and Navigator) and a Princess (Caribbean Princess). Our daughter was 5 when we started sailing, so Disney was perfect for her. We loved Disney as well (in fact we're sailing on the Wonder next month), but found more adult activities on the RCCL ships, especially after 10 p.m.
While my daughter had a blast on Disney, she also had a great time on RCCL's larger ships and even participated in the parades down the Promenade. The main difference for us is that Disney offers much longer camp hours. On RCCL, childcare is available from 9-12, 2-5 and 7-10 (you can pay by the hour after that). Now that our daughter is 11, it will be interesting to see if she loves Disney as much as she did when she was younger.
Another difference we found was in the cleanliness of the ships. Disney's ships were spotless. If you put down an empty glass at the pool, it was swooped up immediately. On RCCL, there were lots of glasses around the pool that weren't picked up right away, but by and large, the ships were clean.
Is Disney worth the extra money? Well, if we didn't qualify for a (large) Florida resident discount, we wouldn't have booked our cruise on the Wonder next month and probably would have gone on RCCL again.

It's the difference between having a good experience and a fantastic one. We went on the Disney Magic in June 04 and June 06. This time we got to spend two days at Castaway Cay. We could happily live on this island. Our children are 14, 11 and 8 and they all thoroughly enjoyed every minute on the ship. We all wish we could have gotten right back on the ship on the last day for another 7 day cruise and in fact many people do. There's just something about the way Disney does things that takes them levels above everyone else when it comes to providing entertainment. We have all had very happy dreams about being on the ship these past few weeks after the cruise. It's just an amazing experience. The cruise was worth every penny we spent and we will definitely go again. Just do it!

My biggest mistake was cruising Disney first. We just got off the Mariner and there is no comparison. I will probably never cruise RCCL again. We were a group of 30 and it was rediculous from the moment we boarded. They wouldn't let my Aunt on (she has stomach problems) because she became sick, messed up reservations, countless errors. SLOPPY!!
Disney's embarkation is smooth. The minute you step on ship you are announced! The kids club is amazing! RCCL had 30 kids and one girl signing them on. They were always playing a ball game in the room. It was disorganized and not what I expected (thanks to Disney). Disney fed our kids, gave us a beeper, had the kids wash hands the moment they entered the room. The whole week was magical and very Disney! Debarkation on RCCL was a downer at the end of a cruise and made me hate it even more. Disney was lovely. We ate breakfast with our waiter's and walked off the ship. I never felt rushed or like a number!
I would pay double to have that feeling that the cruise was designed for me and my family!! I cannot wait to plan my next cruise with Disney!!!

Our children were 5 and 8 when we cruised in December. It was magical and, we feel, worth every dollar spent.
What makes Disney stand-out?
* the characters (on what other cruise line will you bump into Cinderella in the corridor?)
* Castaway Cay is an amazingly beautiful and family-friendly private port
* huge kids clubs with a great variety of activities
* more accommodating hours in the kids clubs, also beepers so you can always be contacted
* large cabins with 2 bathrooms in most cabins (toilet and sink in 1, sink and shower in the other)
* the rotating dining system allows you the novelty of a different restaurant each night while still enjoying the same wait staff
* Disney stage shows were entertaining for the entire family
* fireworks at sea
...I'm sure I've probably forgotten something - but you get the idea, we felt it was well worth it. Now, 7 months down the track, I never find myself wishing we had saved the $$$. Instead, I find us looking through the photographs and thinking about our wonderful memories.
I suppose it wouldn't be worth it for someone who didn't have children or an interest in Disney, but for a family with children it is magical.:)

Disney is more expensive but...what about Disney isn't more expensive??? They truly provide the "magic" of Disney with the cruise experience that you will likely not find on any other ship. We're trying the Mariner next year and very excited about the amenities it has to offer but are so glad that we tried Disney at least once while our kids were at the perfect age to fully enjoy all things Disney (ages 7 and 9). Would they get that same "magical" feeling when they are older? I don't know but I have a feeling that the amenities that the Mariner offers (rock wall, ice rink, mini golf) will be more interesting to them at this older age. And, I really don't think I would want to do the Disney cruise over and over again.
Bottom line, at the age your kids are right now...do Disney!

They have their own terminal, their own island, every employee you tt, is Disney. They have their own buses for transfers from Orlando international. They have their own Host at the airport. Their ships are not well maintained, but excellantly maintained! The childrens programs will give both of you romantic time, as needed. The shows are special, the food is between very good to great. Your children will have Great Time, and Trust me, will want to go again. The $1000.00 you save elsewhere, may be spent on a average vacation. If you think you can do something really Special for your children, than Disney will charge you the extra $1000.00 . Comparing prices for differant lines is a difficult choice. The Disney ships also get the Best Parking spots at the ports of call, usually, because thry pay more to berth at they best dock. It's all 1st. class. Going on our 5th, in October. Good Luck! GO SEE MICKEY! Metrowon

I think a lot depends on how much your children are into Disney. When we decided to take our children on their first cruise we discussed a Disney cruise. We'd been to Disney on land based vacations several times. All of the children, hands down, had no interest in a Disney cruise. In their words they were "Disneyed out". Their first cruise was on Royal Carribean and since then have also cruised on Carnival. They've had no complaints on either line and have always had a great time. If you and your family really love Disney, I would do it. If not, then I would save the $1000 and book on another family friendly line.

We're senior citizens and just went on the Caribbean Princess after two previous cruises on the Magic and Wonder and all I can say is that I will willingly pay the extra to go on Disney again. While Princess was very nice it just didn't have the "magic" of Disney. While the crew members were great on Princess, the cast members on Disney were exceptional as were the shows, activities and food. We're booked on the Magic in December of 2007 and can't wait to go.

I can't tell you if the cruise itself is worth more, but we just booked the 4 day cruise on Jan 7 yesterday and I've never seen my wife so thrilled about a cruise. Just based on the "thrill" factor alone Disney seems to be worth it--and we still have more than 5 months to look forward to it.

DH and I have no kids either. We went on our first cruise in '04 for our 25ht Anniversary and it just happened to be with Disney.....we had a ball!!!! We did the Land/Sea Combo because we had never been to WDW or a cruise and this seemed to be the best of both worlds. Since we weren't sure if we would like cruising we did the 4 Day Land/3 Night Cruise. It wasn't long enough. We will be going on the 7 Day Eastern on Sept. 2. We liked it that much.
We aren't "fancy" people. Meaning, we don't enjoy having to get into formal attire to go to dinner and we're not gamblers(save that for Vegas).
I also like the fact that there was no charge for pop and coffee, room service is free. And the staff is without question The Best:)
And it is possible to get away from the, what's the word I'm looking for, "Kiddish Character" aspect of the theming and find some adult things to do. I highly recommend the adult pool and jacuzzi. They also have a wonderful spa as well. You can sail the entire cruise and only see Mickey and the Gang when you go to dinner because they're in the atrium for pictures.

Disney was our first...and second cruise. We were on the Wonder in August, 2003 for 4 nights (after 3 nights in WDW). It was so spectacular, we booked the 7 night cruise for November, 2004. The service is amazing and having the characters on board provides magic for the kids! The kids program is outstanding! Both times, my son was off doing his own thing and I did not have to worry.
With that being said, my son turns 12 in a couple of weeks and we taking our first RCCL cruise. When I decided to take him on a cruise for his birthday, my first thought was Disney because we know what we are getting - a wonderful, magical experience. However, my son saw the commericial for the new Freedom of the Seas ship with its "surf on board" feature. When we looked into it, we found they have a rock climbing wall, ice rink, putt putt golf, water park, etc. He chose to try this ship over Disney. With him being a "pre-teen", he spends less time in a "kids program" and more time just hanging out with kids his age that he meets. RCCL has the "living room" available for tweens and teens to do just that.
I am a bit worried having only cruised Disney and know of the amazing service, but after I return from our first RCCL cruise, I can offer a clearer opinion. This is a brand new ship, so I am certain the "wow" factor will be maintained. All in all, I think the experience that comes with Disney is well worth it - especially when you are cruising with kids...

I'm Carol and I went on the Disney cruise with my family and grandkids. They had a blast.
The 6- and 8-year olds had a lot of fun stuff to do. They even got to participate in some science classes--quite educational.
Their favorite part was Detective School, where they solved pretend crimes by looking for fingerprints and taking samples. They also loved the pirate stories! You should have seen the adults turn into kids themselves too with this one!
There's a nursery for the little ones and a teen beach too.
There is something for everyone on Disney cruises (even way-too-cool 15-year-old boys).
You can get more information about the Disney cruise at my blog:

Hear how we cruise around the world the fun way! Welcome to our world of adventure!

Okay, okay, you've all convinced me! I'll book a Disney cruise for next year!
We've sailed Celebrity twice, Princess once, and we're going on Carnival in October.
But after reading this thread, I'm going to have work overtime just to take our family of six.
Here's a question for you.
We always take our inlaws too and the on the last cruise, they kept two of our kids in their cabin.
What configurations do you think would be the least expensive for the eight of us (l.e. 4 and 4, 5 and 3, or anything else)? We love balconies so I don't think I'd want anything less.
Thanks for the advise.

A category 6 is the lowest priced stateroom with a standard balcony and it will sleep 3 or 4. They do have some connecting rooms available as well that you might consider. That way you can easily move between both rooms, giving you easy access to 2 potties and 2 showers!

. If you and your family really love Disney, I would do it. If not, then I would save the $1000 and book on another family friendly line.
How can you answer the question if you haven't even cruised on Disney? Do you have friends or relatives that have done Disney and RCCL or Carnival that have given this advice? Or are you just making assumptions?

Hi All,
My experience is very similar to Mamawolf's. We were all set to sail away on our third Disney Cruise this month (my daughter is 11yrs old) but chose to have a go at RCCL's Freedom of the Seas on 8/27 after seeing the tv commercial. The service of the staff and crew on both Disney ships (we've sailed both) are in a word...IMPECCABLE! I'm not sure what to expect of Freedom in a few weeks but I gotta say, Disney has set the bar very high!
Give it a go! You won't regret it!

I am sorry but if we had to have paid for our DIsney Cruise I would not have gone. Did I enjoy it-Heck yes. But I could go on 2 Canival cruises with our sons for the cost of the Disney cruise we were on. We had a back wrap around balcony and our sons were next to us in a regular balcony. It would have been over 5,000.00 for our trip. Thank goodness for my husbands employer.

My husband and I are set to sail on Sept. 1 out of Port Canaveral. Having been on 4 other cruises (1 Carnival, 1 Celebrity and 2 Holland American) we were very surprised at the prices for Disney. We do not have kids, but will be going with family that have a 2 and 4 year old. On Holland America for the same price we had a Superior Suite with twice the space and balcony, access to the private lounge, free in room appetizers or high tea, free laundry and dry cleaning, Captain's dinners and receptions. We were a little shocked with what we are getting for the same price. It's nice to read that although we are giving up the adult perks, the youngsters will be getting an incredible vacation. I guess it's the price we pay to be with family.

Our boys were 8 and 10 when we last cruised Disney in October of 2004, 7 night Southern Carib.
After spending 7 nights with all things Disney they had enough of all things Disney. We found that when they were little, 4 and 6, that DCL was great for them, but at this age they wanted to be more independent, play in the pool, play ping-pong, and hang out with mom and dad; in short, the kids got very little value for the premium price that was paid to Disney. Also, the majority of direction is really towards the little princess's on board.
My kids picked Holland America for the next cruise and they had a blast. Ten nights for considerably less than 7 on DCL, great pool, great private island, plenty of table tennis, time to build puzzles and play board games.
Next cruise is QM2 in 2008. Hope this helps.

We have cruised Disney 5 times. 4 X we did the 4 day Wonder cruise, and the last time we cruised in July of 2004 we did the 7 day Western Caribbean on the Magic. My husband and I are both in our 30's, no kids. We LOVED every Disney cruise. Infact, we know we are going to cruise again in 2007 and were thinking of booking the 10 day Mediterranean cruise. However, the price for the 10 day Med. cruise on the Disney Cruise line is double what we would spend if we did NCL Jewel instead. To some this may seem a simple problem to solve. But, we have had the BEST vacations on the Disney Cruise Line so we are a bit gun shy about trying a new cruise line. We thought the food, on all 5 disney cruises was excellent, the ships are beautiful, the shows are excellent, everything was perfect on all 5 cruises. I don't want to be comparing every little thing to DCL on my vacation!

One of the really cool things about DCL is that because there are only 2 ships there is an AMAZING amount of information out there on it. There is a whole book on DCL (passporter's puts it out) and in this book (among TONS of other things), it shows you how many the stateroom will hold. It even gives recommendations in some cases of preferred rooms (i.e. secret porthole rooms, adjoining rooms, sample menus, etc). DH and I are going on the Majesty next Friday and the amount of info is probably 1/10th of the info I've been able to find on DCL (including copies of their navigator (compass on RCL, I think), etc. So, I think it is possible to be able to do TONS of research before you book the cruise which should help.

Please tell me more about Voyager. We are booked for the Med. cruise for next year on both Disney and Voyager. We can't decided which to do. We are leaning on Disney because that is what we are used to, plus we will have a 4 and 6 year old with us. BUT if Voyager is as nice, we can get a Owner's suite on Voyager, vs. Oceanview on Disney.
Any more info on this would be great!
