We, DS6 1/2 and I just got back from our first trip to WDW on June 25. We usually go to the beach or take a cruise so I wasn't sure if I'd like it. I was wrong! We had a blast! I'm starting to plan our vacation for next year and would like to do a cruise so I thought a Disney cruise would be great! Halloween is both of our favorite time of year and it's also just about out of hurricane season! I was considering the land/sea option, but it just doesn't seem like enough time at sea for us. Since you've been at halloween before maybe you could answer a few questions for me. How is the water temp on the islands then? I've only gone in July so I have no idea. I'm guessing it may be a little cooler but not much. Also, do you remember if there were any kids in the 8 year old range? DS will be 8 then and I'll be taking him out of school for the week. He'll be in 2nd grade and I don't think he'll be missing much! I'm a single mom and have taken him on a cruise alone when he was 5 and we had fun. It was a Carnival cruise in July and there were a lot of other kids his age. I thought since this was Disney, surely there would be some even during the school year. I'm really trying to dodge hurricane season. I live in Mississippi and know all about hurricanes! We even had to keep our eye on the possible tropical low last week off of Florida. I get tired of having to worry about that on vacations so next year we are trying something new.
Sorry to ramble on, just wanted to give you some background info so you'll know why I'm asking all of these questions!:o
Oh, you are taking the Eastern cruise, right?

No problem, if I miss anything just ask again and I will try and answer.
Umm hurricane season, technically it is still hurricane season but apparently it is the tail end. Hopefully we don't have a year like last year and we should be fine.
Water temps where very nice, I don't like the ocean as I am not a fan of salt water but DH and the kids where in every chance they got.
Yes, tons of kids of all ages, you would never know it wasn't a holilday there was so many kids but there is so much to do they where always busy. If we didn't make our kids eat with us at dinner we would have never seen them.
Yes it is eastern, which is what I did last time. Since DD and I are on our own I don't think we will venture very far on the islands and we plan on parasailing this time, it was booked before but it was cancelled due to high winds.
And you definatley have to try Palo, another thread I belong to already has a group of ladies who will be doing Pao for lunch.....can't wait.
Any other questions or if I missed anything....ask away.
You will definatley not be disappointed with a disney cruise.

I will be on that ship on that cruise with my 59 yr old mom. She hasn't cruised since Jan/04 and she is jonesin for salt sea air. The cruise in 04 was also the Eastern, but much cooler temps, will most likely do excursions with her, as she did not enjoy the islands as much due to mobility issues. Thinking about the Lagoon speed boat ride on St. Maarten and just a ride up the Tram on St. Thomas.

" Since DD and I are on our own I don't think we will venture very far on the islands."
I cruised alone last year to Cozumel and ventured out and never felt threatened or anything. We had to dock there overnight due to Tropical Storm Cindy. We had a blast! We took a taxi to the Chankanaab Park to snorkel and to downtown to shop and felt safe. Maybe if we meet up on the cruise we can decide to all venture out togther and share taxi fare! I've been to both islands before and never felt unsafe. I think sometimes I throw caution to the wind on vacation.

Maybe I'll join you! I just love inviting myself:o .

Definatley join us, the more the merrier. Worth every penny, when I know what date everyone picked I will let you know so you can make your ressies as well.
We are doing the tram in St Thomas as well, we wanted to do that last time but did a indepenant tour. Sunny Liston and it was so much fun but I want to do the tram this time.
Not sure about St Maarten, probably just walk around the pier or take the water taxi to the jewellery stores.
