Hi:

We want to plan a cruise to Alaska next year. We cruised in early June two years ago and never saw any bears. When is the best time to see bears? Thanks for any help.

Regards,
Arlene

I'm no bear expert, but if they're like other wildlife, they're more likely to be active during the early morning or late afternoon/evening hours than during mid-day. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to get a close look at one - bears are some dangerous critters!;)

My family likes Alaskan Amber ... Oh, you asked about bears, not beers.

Hi Arlene,
If the salmon are running, the bears are fishing and partying! Here is a link that will show you the best fishing times in Alaska. Have a great cruise!

I agree!
The best time to see a bear is when its eating somebody - Er, something else!

We saw bears in Prince Rupert on our May 28th cruise. We took an excursion to the Kunzmateen Preserve. Just fascinating seeing a Mom and 3 cubs foraging on the beach. I was told that the group of the 4X4 excursion at Sitka saw 5. I know the Taku lodge group usually sees a bear at the salmon grill. Good luck. It's an experience you won't soon forget.

Thanks for the informative and humorous information. I think the salmon run starting in July through August, so I will try to plan my trip during that time frame.

Cheers,
Arlene

With all the bear sightings in both Northern CA and Southern CA this spring, you might have a better chance of seeing one here.

Perhaps they are tired of people encroaching on their areas, and are reasserting their territorial rights, but there have been a bunch of sightings, along with the normal mountain lion sightings.
