We don't need a passport for an Alaska cruise do we? I just assumed birth certificates would be fine until I read a post from someone who said they were almost turned away for not having passports. It is way too late to get them now if we need them.

No you do not need passports for Alaska, birth certificates will be fine. Make sure they have the raised seal on them, however you will be going through Canada and you should not have a problem. We used to carry just birth certificates, then got passports and you would not believe how much faster you go through security, immigration, etc. I highly recommend getting passports. It is the way to go.

Along with the birth certificate you need to provide a photo I.D. I agree with the previous poster that Passports are the way to go. No hassles.

I think the poster you are referring to forgot their passports and did not have their birth certificates with them. They were lucky to find a sympathetic agent!
We finally got passports for this past cruise and it made such a difference. I was always fine with the birth certificate-ID thing, but trust me, a passport will make travelling much easier. Who knows how long it will be before we are required to have passports for all travel- might as well get it now before everyone is rushing to get one.
