Our first cruise we did because she had gone above and beyond and helped to save us over $2000. per couple. We just wanted to let her know that we really appreciated all that she did.

I sent a gift of a T-shirt for her son who was a fan of our baseball team, a thoughtful momento is fine, a cash gift is not so appropriate, they are professionals like firemen or insurance agents, you don't tip anyone but service personel.

On the flip side, what do you do if a TA is not doing their job. My wife tried to do a little "Cruise Personalizer" work this afternoon and it said that it could not access a CANCELLED BOOKING! It turns out that my TA didn't make the final payment. Luckily, it looks like we caught it in time, but if she had not treid to log in, we would have lost our reservation. And since ALL of the outside cabins on our cruise are totally booked and there are only a couple cabins left period, we would have been S.O.L.
Should we demand some kind of refund, or just see if they do the right thing and offer something first?

OMG!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I would have lost it. Thank goodness your wife caught it. I doubt you will get anything for your heart attack, but I would definatly find a new TA for your next cruise. This has happened to other cruisers in the past. It sure isn't funny when it happens to you!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I have sent my TA flowers before and also a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant. When they go the extra step for you, it is worth rewarding.
I believe the best thing one can do is refer friends to your TA.

Thank you all! It's comforting because each time I go to see my travel agent, I am under the impression that I am disturbing her. I always think that I am doing something wrong... Bottom line, I think it's time to move on to another TA.

You are right. Today there are so many cruise agents, they have to work to keep your business. There are so many that will keep you happy and pull rabbits out of a hat to keep you as a client. And through word of mouth, which is most important, will bring refurrals from you. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Being a travel agent, I am appalled to hear that your current agent is so nonchalant about your business. I wouldn't,, in a million years, even think about snubbing my clients. I attend to their every question as promptly as possible.
I think it is very nice of anyone who has given their travel agent some token of appreciation. My favorite tip is a good referral. It is the gift that keeps giving, provided I do a good job with their referral - which I always try to do.
I would definitely say you should find a new agent if the one you are using can't be bothered. There are many great ones out there.
Good luck,
Donna
