While docking in Victoria there were high winds and the Diamond suffered some damage to her hull, not sure of the extent of the damage. This is according to the Seattle news

On the news it said Diamond Princess hit the pier and that the Diamond and Oosterdam who was also there at the pier were spending the night in Victoria while damage assesment to the hull was being done. Haven't heard an update yet, 5,000 people arriving to get on the two ships. I will be in Seattle touring the NCL ship. Ought to be an interesting day.

My mother is aboard this cruise. Has anyone else heard if it's still in Victoria? I guess her 10:50am flight from Seattle this morning is a bust!!!
Boy, this is her first Princess cruise. First she went through the nightmare of embarkation last Saturday (other post on this board). Now this...... I wonder if she booked a future cruise while onboard....

Well, just heard from my mom (she called from her mobile phone aboard the ship). They are at sea (as of 11:00am est) on their way to Seattle. She said they are expected to arrive in Seattle at 6pm (but I don't know why it's taking so long to get there). She said that 4 tug boats and a navy vessel were involved in the movement of the ship early this morning. Something about them hitting bottom???? I guess things don't look good for the passengers who are supposed to board this afternoon. I'll find out more if she calls me back. As for flights, American can't confirm her until Monday night at 11:30pm. (they are flying on a first class mileage ticket so I guess capacity control is kicking in). Not a good ending for this trip (although I'd be happy with the extra time aboard). More room service please!!!

Thanks, Rolando! Anxiously awaiting news here in Seattle. I called Princess this morning and said we were booked on this afternoon's sailing and the Princess rep said "no problem, it will depart on time..." guess that was just to get me off the phone.

Just talked Srphnx from Seattle where he is waiting to board the Diamond Princess. He said that the Diamond will not be into Seattle until around 1 p.m. He is being told that the damage to the ship is very very minimal and that they were in Victoria overnight to fill out forms.
He believes that embarkation will begin around 5 p.m. if all goes well.

Kurt,
I just called Princess too. They told me that the ship is OK and will be arriving in Seattle at 2pm PDT and boarding will start sometime after 3pm. It looks as if we are going to sail.
Bon Voyage
See you on board.

Latest news from Steve in Seattle is that the Diamond is being towed by tug and isn't expected to arrive in Seattle until 7 p.m. and they may cancel the cruise. He got this directly from Princess.
More as I get it!

I just called Princess and was also told the 2 PM expected time. However, they had not heard anything from the ship in several hours so I'm sure Steve has more accurate info than the 1-800 number. Please keep updating us as anyone hears anything.
Thanks,

I'm on the Diamond right now. We started pulling out of Victoria approx. 3:15AM and are currently moving at a snail's pace. No one was able to get off the ship except the passengers requiring medical treatment. We missed our flight and will not chance booking another flight because it is not certain when we will get in. There was an announcement just placed overhead that we should arrive around noon.

Miranda - thanks for the update. I just called Steve in Seattle to give him the good news that you'll be in at noon (good for him, not so good for you).
I hope you are able to get a flight home. This must be a nightmare for all the passengers flying today.

Hi everyone;
Just heard from our cousins via their cell phone aboard the Diamond Princess. Captain just announced that they should arrive at the Seattle harbor around noon. They state that the Diamond hit a breakwall in Victoria. Heavy gail force winds last night in the area could have been a contributing factor. The harbor pilot was onboard when the ship hit the wall. Ship has sustained a 50 ft gash and the propulsion system is damaged on the starboard side.
Our friends were able to contact their Airline as soon as they had cell phone connectivity and reschedule their flight..they will be taking the last flight out tonight at approx midnight, connect in Atlanta and arrive in Ohio tomorrow morning around 9:30.
Rumor has it onboard that the cruise scheduled to embark today is cancelled as the ship will need to go into drydock for repair.
I will post updates as they become available to me from my cousin.

Steve just called and Lloyd's of London has cleared the ship to sail so this week's sailing will take place. Embarkation is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight and sailing at midnight.

Wow, I just found out about the Diamond! It sounds like this sailing is going to be cancelled. I wonder how long it will take to fix everything? Maybe everyone that is supposed to leave today can reschedule for July or August when it's warmer. I hope the best for everyone.
