:D We are taking a cruise Tour at the end of July NB. With 1,800 people on the ship, some turning around for a 7 day inside passage cruise and some heading north with us, How many? Thinking that if 1/2 took the land part, 900, and we were on buses at 50 each, that would be 18 buses. A LOT of buses and I am sure there would be other groups. Does anyone have an idea as to how many are on each land tour?

40 pax per bus. Sometimes they'll go to 42 or 44... depending. Hotel space is the issue.
There aren't that many hotel rooms to accommodate all the people you've guestimated.
You'll find that most people elect to tour first, then cruise.

DH and I did a land tour after our cruise last August for our 25th wedding anniversary. HAL offers at least 25 different tours. Everyone that has a tour after the cruise will not be doing the exact same one that you are doing. When you disembark at your assigned time you go to walk over to a large building and wait for your name to be called by your tour director (if one is included with your tour). With your group you then get on a bus, first come, first seated. We sat in the same seats for all of the tour. Then you are off on your adventure. When you go to attractions there will be other buses there but I never felt crowded or cattle herded.

The number of other land tourist you will see depends upon where you are. In the boondocs, you'll probably be alone with your group. In the cities and at the popular tourist sites, there's likely to be a crowd. Here is a picture from 1999 that shows the busses, both HAL's and Princess', waiting on tourists returning from a cruise on the Discovery III on the Tanana River, just outside Fairbanks.
