The sign outside the Port of LA said $40 one way from there to LAX via taxi when we were there last month. It's a good distance and will take about 30 mins., depending upon traffic.

I believe there's a Hilton nearby that offers free shuttles to the port. I'll look around and see if I can find the info. again.

Here's all the info. you should need!

http://www.sanpedro.com/spcom/crusshp.htm

It has hotels, port info, etc. Just remember that with Princess, you aren't going into Long Beach and the Carnival docks, but to the WORLD CRUISE TERMINAL. (Very important. People get confused all the time.)

Lady Jag, the web link is a great resource for the Port of Los Angeles located in San Pedro.

misterbill, the $40 or so taxi ride is the most convenient and the best value for two or three passengers.

miserbill,

The Sheraton San Pedro was very clean and priced very affordably, $85 plus tax. They also offered free parking and free shuttle service to the pier. (Across to street). Not a lot of excitement in the area but a maritime museum and boardwalk by the channel.
I highly recommend that if you are staying over in San Pedro that you try to dine one evening at:

Papadakis Taverna
301 W. 6th Street
San Pedro, CA 90731
310-548-1186

Andrea recommended this restaurant to us this spring and she was right on the mark! It was really great and a fun place as well! Try the "Combination Dinner" for a sampling of all of their best dishes!

What about these two shuttle services?

Haven't used either one but have read about those who have.

We also stayed at the Sheraton. Park and sail package is $149.00. Nice room, bottle of champagne, two wine glasses, all you can eat breakfast in the a.m. and I think the room is a lot less if you don't need to park there for a week. If you don't have a car there is a mexican restaurant just 1/2 block away from the hotel that was excellent. While we were eating there we saw one of the RCL ships departing.

We reserved the Sheraton for a couple of nights in Nov. Didn't take the sail and stay package though. $89 for a king room with shuttle to ship. Glad to hear I made a good hotel choice. Only 3 blocks approx. to the ship.

We stayed at the Sheraton San Pedro post-cruise for $75 for a executive king room. Shuttle to the pier. The hotel is OK, not as nice as the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, which I got on Priceline for $55.

Another restaurant suggestion from the Sheraton is the Acapulco Mexican Restaurant on the harbor. It is within easy walking distance (close to the maritime musuem Rod mentioned) and the concierge at the Sheraton can give you a card for a free appetizer.

You can also watch any ships arriving or setting sail from the harbor. A good spot is at the Fire Boat of LA Harbor garage.

We will be leaving from the Long Beach Port when we sail on the Diamond this fall. Since I would like to be close to the ship on sailing day, we thought we'd try either the Hilton Long Beach or the Hyatt. Any comments on which would be better? Thanks.

May 11 we took suppershuttle from the airport to the hotel near the World Cruise Port and it was $32.00. When I called they said it was $30 but they added a $2.00 fee recently. If you go to the suppershuttle web site they have phone numbers and you could call and get info as to if the prices have gone up with the gas. (That was for 2 persons).

Hornet..
What sailing on the Diamond are you on in Oct. ?
Were booked on the Oct. 16, 2004 Diamond sailing and i was wondering if Princess is going to be using the Port of Long Beach to sail from ?
I know that Carnival leaves from the port of long beach right next to the queen mary, Is this the same port that the Diamond is going to use also ?

We will be sailing on Oct. 30. I would love to hear from you after your cruise ~ just before we leave. I called Princess to verify that they will be using the Long Beach Port and they said definitely ~ yes. I know others have sailed from San Pedro. It is the same port as Carnival.

This fall, the Diamond will be sailing from Long Beach using the Carnival terminal next door to the Queen Mary.

The Island will be using the Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro) for its 15-day round-trip cruises to Hawaii.

It's a good idea to check with your travel agent ane/or Princess before leaving home to make sure the departure port hasn't been recently changed.
