We just got back from 5/15 cruise...had a basic balcony (BB) on Riviera....just loved it. Convenient location...and had just the right combonation of shade and sun for me....we were on the port side. Would do it again in a minute!

We had L250 mid-Lido deck. Fully covered but small with two chairs and a round table. We could look down on the decks below, but no one was above us. We booked a BF guarantee and were upgraded to the BA on Lido.
Nice to be able to hit the Horizon and pools without having to use the stairs. We always used the stairs climbing up from deck 6 (casino) to deck 15 Lido. That was a workout in itself.
There is no deck 13, but those really on what is called deck 14 are really on deck 13. Funny how a simple number can cause a ship or a building not to have a deck or floor numbered 13.
Our 13th cruise went off without a problem other than losing in the casino. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
14 cruises so far - RCCL, Carnival, Celebrity, Princess, NCL, HAL. (we were on the last cruise of the wonderful Norway, still have my room key)
Caribbean Princess 5/15/04 last

If you decide on just a regular balcony, you want either the Caribe deck or a full aft balcony. The Caribe deck has balconies that are about double the size of the one we had on Disney. They are also half covered and half open to the sun. The aft balconies are covered and (depending on the specific room) are either about the same size as the Caribe deck balconies, slightly larger, or slightly smaller.
The mini suites on the CP are only slightly larger than the regular balcony rooms. You will have a couch instead of just a chair, a larger bathroom w/ tub, and a little more room to move about. The mini suite balconies are not as big as the above mentioned regular balconies.

We had a balcony cabin on the Riviera Deck just below Horizon Court. It was so convenient. We are stair climbers (too impatient for elevators) so this worked out great. If we forgot something or needed to use the restroom when out on the pool deck, it only took a moment to buzz on down to our room.
Oh, and if you are traveling the Eastern Caribbean, I recommend port side. Port definitely had better views at St. Thomas and St. Maarten.
