How much does it cost to use the iron on the ship? Should I bring my own?

Use the irons provided in the laundry rooms on the ship! Your own could pose a fire hazard! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

True...on my very first cruise, I brought along a travel iron. After using it the first night, I left it out to cool-off while we were at dinner. When we returned, there was a note from our cabin stewart who kindly told us that, under the direction of the Captain, he would hold the iron for the duration of the cruise, and return it to us on the last day. He also left a free pressing voucher (for one item) for our trouble, along with directions to the nearest laundry room.
We didn't mind at all, since we had never cruised before, it didn't even occur to me that a travel iron could be a problem. BTW, this was on Carnival (back when we thought all cruise lines were the same!).

You also run into some fun people while ironing. Lots of good converstaions happen in the laundry room. It's much less tedious than doing laundry at home. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So is there a charge for the washers/dryers in the laundry room? I am a first time cruiser and just want to know if I need to bring change and laundry supplies for anything we must have washed while there. You never know when traveling with kids!

Yes, there is a charge. Bring Quarters. I believe it was $1.00 for each machine back in 2003. You can also buy soap but no bounce back then. Oh use American quarters, it almost jammed when I used my Canadian quarters http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif.
The iron board as above is free. There is a lundry on every floor so if yours is full go up or down a floor.

For doing laundry we always take some fabric softner sheets with us as well as some of the "laundry tabs". These are great and don't take up much space in your luggage.

Does anyone who recently sailed on the Caribbean Princess know if there was a laundry charge? I don't want to lug quarters if I don't have to!

Does anyone know the price of having items pressed on Princess? I was thinking of having some of our formal wear pressed so I don't have to iron.

We were in a suite. Laundry was free, but had to iorn a blouse at last minute. It felt so strange to do this on a cruise, but is was free!

Just returned from the Caribbean Princess on Saturday. There is a $1 charge for the washer and dyer. You can buy soap, color bleach, and softner(each $1). You don't have to lug quarters, as there is a change machine in the laundry room (takes dollars). I would "lug" some dryer sheets, as the liquid softner will require you to watch for the last rinse cycle.
(Boy am I lazy, I was not happy waiting for the rinse cycle to add the softner stuff.)

Janet -
We will be in a suite also on our cruise...when you say laundry was free, is this dry cleaning or just wash and dry clothing? Also, do you send it out one day and it's back the next like at a hotel or what? Thanks!

The laundry charge depends on the ship. There was no charge for doing laundry on the Regal when I was on her a few weeks ago. There was a charge $1 for a small box of soap.

Denise, Anything is free! You have to wait until the next day. That is why I was so bummed by a last minute iron job. Have you ever stayed in a suite? Let me know if you have any questions. We have stayed in an inside, outside, and a balcony room. We are now hooked on the aft suites. Don't get me wrong, we are not made of money(I work for the public schools) We have just decided to make this a priority.

Janet, I have never even been on a cruise before much less stayed in a suite! I just knew that when my daughter (who will be a senior next year) wanted to go on a cruise and I wasn't too excited about it (just never been on boats before and had nightmares for years as a child over the poseidon adventure haha!) then I decided I would get a suite and do it nicely if I have to do it at all! My hubby has been on one before with work so it will be the first for my kids (also have another son and a friend of his who will be staying in a room a few doors down from ours) and for me. If you have any other great advice on the suite thing or anything let me know!

Take a roll of quarters. Take some Bounce. Take some laundry soap.
Don't count on there being soap in the laundry rooms, and it's highly unlikely there will be any dryer sheets.
Don't count on the change machine working.
Be prepared! Bring your own stuff!!
