Amen to that. One cousin back, one still over, 15 former students back, 12 still over.
It's times like this when I am on a board talking about being able to cruise with friends without having to fear for my safety that I thank God that my country is protected by people like those men and women in that slideshow.

I thank God everyday for those people over there in Iraq and all over the world. My nephew is a major in the CA National Guard and we are so very proud of him. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are in that we plan cruises all year and where to go next year etc. I am very graateful.

I'll admit I didn't go to Chris' link because I think the fact that our cherished brethren are in Iraq is a horrendous mistake and I personally can't take much more. It’s difficult to separate this mistake from the politics.

Thanks so much for the site Chris! No one wishes more than me that our soldiers never had to be put in harms way - my husband is one of them. I understand that many do not agree with the actions that our government has taken - but I am grateful to those that can put those feelings aside and show support for our brave men and women and their families.

Look I feel terrible for those who are over in that hell hole, fighting and dying for good intentions, BUT I hated the cute little child voice over and the soft romantic music.
WAR IS DIRTY, NOISEY, SCARY, AND MESSY! WAR IS NOT A HALLMARK CARD!
I truly do not want to hurt anyones feelings who has a loved one over there, I pray for their safe delivery home, I just can't stand these little tributes and such that basically seem to glorify war.Soldiers are not all brave and strong, some of them are frightened young boys and girls that should be a home still, preferalby in school!

People tend to forget that each and every day there are men and women of all ages fighting for us so we can remain a FREE COUNTRY. Some of them are giving their lives as the ultimate price for this FREEDOM. At the very least we should be praying nightly with our families. Pray for them to be safe, pray that they will be brave and strong in battle, pray for their families, but mostly pray that this war will end and ALL OUR TROOPS can be reunited with their families.
This Memorial Day will be very hard for many people. If someone you know has a soldier fighting the war on terror show them that you care. Spend some time with them, call them, do whatever you can to show your support, you will be a better person for it.

I know that this War is very controversial, but can't we, for once, put those feelings aside (or start another thread somewhere) and just pay homage to those who have, and are sacrificing so very much for their country, and especially to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice? Thank you fellow cruisers.http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/u/usa.gif

http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifI want to say thanks to all of you for thanking and supporting US. Both my husband and I are active duty Air Force. While we have been fortunate to be together, we have both deployed to the Middle East since 9/11 and the beginning of IRAQI FREEDOM.
It means a lot to me to receive the gratitude that you pass along, and I personally magnify it 10-times and send it along to MY heroes -- my friends and fellow servicemembers serving on the front lines and laying down their lives, not because of their own political beliefs, but because that's what they said they would do if called upon to do that. Please do say an extra prayer on Memorial Day for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, their familes, and all those they've left behind.

Unfortunately the pendulum has swung.....now heading in the opposite direction. Tributes like this should be sent to all your friends so the process can be repeated over and over.
I was watching ET last night and Madonna says she can NOW release her new album because of the way the country is now viewing the war. She said (and I am paraphrasing), it could not be released last year as it would have been political suicide. What ever side of the coin you are on, supporting our troops should not be part of an agenda. It is only right and proper that we do that, no matter what!!! Thanks Chris, I have a few naysayers that will get this shortly.

...and here's one more tribute. Interesting side note -- I received this from a friend in Hawaii. In the slide show there is a picture of an Air Force staff sergeant "hitch hiking" as a convoy rolls past, and he's holding a "Florida" sign -- that guy is a Fuels troop in my squadron! The cyber-age has made our world seem much smaller, in so many ways...or should I just say "more accessible"?

Thank you to everyone on this thread for bringing the reality of what this holiday means...as we go thru our daily lives, many of us lose track of the sacrifices made for us to do what we do and enjoy as we do...as many here have said we should all rise above the discussion and give daily thanks and prayer to those who serve so that we may live as we do.

Dear Chris,
Kleenex is Korrect (and more than one needed). Thank you, so much, for the Link. I am a USNR-R. In my 20 years of service, I never had to fight a war. I am a support type, AZ1 (First Class Petty officer). AZ is my job function. We have a lot of nicknames - Lazy AZ, we do everything from A to Z, etc. A is for Aviation and Z is for Maintenance Administrator. We keep the Logs & Records on Aircraft Maintenance.
I have been Retired Reserve for 7 years; however, if all the Reserve personnel have been called and they get down to us old-timers, I would let out my Dress Blues and Whites, and go wherever The Commander sends me to help out.
I have a lot of wonderful memories of my Service and your contribution has given me relection on them. Thanks again.
