Does Princess offer Eggs Benedict every morning in the dining room? (Is it on the regular breakfast menu or do I need to request it special?)
Thanks.. my mouth is watering already http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

They only have it one or two days. I'm sure you could get it made special if you talked with the head waiter.

You can get it as often as you want - all you have to do is ask - you may have to wait longer on days when it is not on the menu, but you can get it.

You can also get it anytime by ordering room service. Just write it on your room service menu and remember to write in everything you want including bacon, sausage, salt/pepper, sugar, cream etc..
I ordered Eggs Benedict twice on my last cruise in March. Loved having breakfast on the balcony!

We requested it in the DR our last morning on the Diamond Princess last week and were told it was not available. The server suggested a poached egg on English muffin with some ham under it, but. . . no thanks. Not the same!
Perhaps the fact that we were at the end of the week had something to do with it.

Hi Rose,
We just got off the Island Princess and tried to do just that. When the tray was delivered there were no eggs so asked the delivery guy and he said it's not on the menu so it's not available. Was quite surprised actually because we had ordered other items that were not on the card (that we wrote in ourselves) and had received those. Wasn't a big deal, just a surprise given past experiences.

Last October on the Star I was NOT able to get eggs benedict in room service and I never saw it offered in the dining room (we ate in the cabin for breakfast a couple of times).

You can let your Maitre D' know the night before and when you go into the dining room in the morning, let them know that you pre-ordered the eggs Benedict.
They really will accommodate you. I love their hazelnut ice cream which we had on the first night of our recent Regal cruise. I mentioned it to the waiter and every night of the 15-day cruise, no matter what dessert was on the menu, I could have my hazelnut ice cream.

Although I am very hesistant to post my thoughts on this topic, I feel compelled to do so (please no one take offense).
I find the entire notion of "special" orders of items that are not on the menu to be quite inconsiderate and self-centered. In my youth, I worked in moderately busy restaurant kitchens and thus appreciate that the entire operation often functions at the precipice separating high speed from breakdown and chaos. At peak times the kitchen functions with a distinct rythym, with little margin for error, that is the result of well timed coordination between many individuals.
Although special orders can sometimes be accomodated, the truth is that such requests throw a huge monkey wrench into the system. I am quite certain that the staff in a typical cruise ship's kitchen work hard enough without us adding disruptive special requests.
I suppose one could argue that accomodating requests is part of the job. I would counter that preparing the menu items is the real job and that if all passengers felt entitled to make non-menu requests the entire kitchen operation would implode.
Please, show some respect and common courtesy to the kitchen staff and think twice before making a special request for an item that is not on the menu.
Flame away.

Hmmm, no flames here. It's another way to approach the issue, and many of us may not have thought about the other side of the story.
Thanks for the input, Merlin.

I thought the 'extended room service menu' is reserved for the suites. I wouldn't even think of 'writing in' items on the menu card. If I wasn't happy with the items on the room service menu, I'd try to find what would make me happy, not try to create extended menu priveleges for myself.

Merlin... I understand where you're coming from. In the case of my ice cream, all I did was mention that I loved it and the waiter took it upon himself to order it for me for the whole cruise. It was a bigger deal if I said I didn't want it one night.
We also had a couple at our table who were strict vegetarians and the waiter and Maitre D' went out of their way to make sure they understood that it wasn't a big deal if they wanted to order something not on the menu. They brought menus from other nights, made suggestions, etc. The couple were a bit embarrassed because they didn't want anyone to go out of their way or cause a problem. It was made very clear to them by the Maitre D' that it wasn't -- they wanted to make sure they had what they wanted.

I spent some time in the restaurant business t too. While that pace may seem fast and poised for disaster at any moment, in many cases it is the result of a tireless group of professionals working together in a coordinated effort that produces an excellent product.
Still, much of it is quite routine.
Restaurant people, true restaurant people, those for whom it is their life, welcome special requests as an opportunity to go beyond what they do on a day to day basis.
Many times these things are quite a challenge. Often I read of these special requests and wonder how the staff on these ships can pull it off. One might also wonder why they would want to pull it off. They won't make any more money by doing so and it probably wouldn't be a problem if they didn't.
They do because they really get into it; it's the kind of stuff they live for. These special things they do also add up in the customer loyalty area too...and that DOES pay off in the long run.
Look at how impressed Pam was that she got her ice cream every night. In many cases, I think it's those personal touches that really do make a big difference and demand our loyalty.
Or maybe that's just me, I dunno

Chris is absolutely right. In the food business, the one that is willing to give the customer the special requests, are the ones with the long lines waiting to be seated. Well, I guess I need to try again.
Is Eggs Benedict on the regular breakfast menu in the dining room?
Maybe I should be more specific I'm cruising on the Caribbean Princess and want to know if eggs benedict on the breakfast menu?
From the previous posts I can't tell. Usually the breakfast menu is the same over the entire cruise.

West Coast,
Was on the Golden this past March and I ordered Eggs Benedict twice, no problem. I enjoyed them on my balcony.
I had read a post, most likely on this board, about writing in what you want for breakfast if it is not on the on the menu card. I tried it when I was on the Grand, received my Eggs Benedict, tried it on Golden, no problem on that ship either. This is one of the many reasons I enjoy cruising on Princess.

Re-reading my first post, I now think that it was worded to strongly. However, I still stand by the sentiment that special requests are generally disruptive and should be avoided as a matter of courtesy.
Something as simple as receiving a favorite ice cream is certainly reasonable and falls squarely within the realm of good service. However, expecting de novo creation of items not on the menu is different (in my humble opinion of course!).
Regarding these requests:
Will the waiter or room steward accept the request?? yes
Will the request be fulfilled?? most of the time
Will the Maitre D' assure us that it is not a bother?? of course
Will the guy/gal actually "slinging the hash" over the hot grill appreciate the extra work?? doubtful
Perhaps some "true restaurant people" look forward to the opportunity to exercise their skills and show-off a little. My experience is different. Most of the time the cooks are far to busy to be able to indulge many custom requests. I expect this is especially the case in an ultra high volume cruise ship kitchen catering to 3000 customers.
Consider what would happen if everyone on the ship made a non-menu special request. It simply would not work.
Of course I could be completely wrong.
Happy sailing to all.
