I am interested in renting a car for one day in St martin for sightseeing.Does Princess have a rental car service in advance through the shore excursion desk? does anyone know the closest rental agency to where the ship docks in St martin? Is it necessary to get an International Drivers License for the rental?
Thanks for any help in advance.

There are about 4 rental agencies right at the dock. Reservation were not necessary. We rented from Budget and paid about $46, which included taxes. International drivers licenses are not needed. They drive you to a lot a short distance away where you pick up the car and you drop the car off right at the dock.

Just make sure you go over the car BEFORE driving away. Note any dings, etc. and get it in writing

Go to Value car Rental at www.valuecarrental.com (http://www.valuecarrental.com) for all information and you can make a reservation on-line.

I definitely second Northender's advice about making sure you get documentation of any dings or dents. We met a couple in STT that pointed out some minor damage, were told "no problem mon", and when they came back there was a different attendant and no record of the damage. They worked it out but only after a time-consuming hassle - not the kind of headache you need in cruiseland.

"These moments we’re left with - may you always remember
These moments are shared, by few
And those harbor lights, lord they’re coming into view
We’ll bid our farewells much too soon
So drink it up, this one’s for you -
Honey, it’s been a lovely cruise."
