We are plannning a cruise on the Star Princess in March 2005. We have sailed on the Grand Princess and loved the ship. The artwork was beautiful and the public rooms were elegant. We would love to hear from anyone who has sailed on the Star...tell us everything about it from the PC dining (which we loved) to the entertainment. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

We will also be doing the Star in March. Right now I am hoping the 20th - Eastern route but waiting to see if I can get an extra week off. If not it will be March 27th - Western (which we have done before ) but that is when our Spring Break is - I work in the school system.

Hello joanne1. We are booked on the Star Princess on March 27, 2005. We also work in the school system and are going during spring break. Did you know that Princess limits the number of children to 400 on this ship? I am hoping to hear all about the Star Princess from previous cruisers. Any previous Star Princess passengers out there??

Hello sue d. miller. We have only been on one Princess ship (GRAND PRINCESS) and loved it. At least you don't have to wait as long as we do until March 2005 to go on the Star. We are cruising on the Celebrity Century in July because I just can't wait that long until the next cruise. Looking forward to hearing from you when you return from the Star. Have a great trip!

We have sailed on the Grand Princess twice and the Star for 25 days last November. The Star is pretty much a carbon copy of the Grand with a little different decor on the interior. Those that have sailed on the Grand will have a bit up on the rest of the passengers cause everything is in the exact same place.
Have a great cruise.

I was on the Star two years ago..I loved her..The trip was to Alaska,so great views from the upper decks..Especially the 18th deck nightclub (name excapes me at the moment). She was easy to get around after a day or so...large but never seemed overwhelming. I had a cabin with the large window..was near the elevators and was able go up to the Promanode deck every easily (baja?) If there was something to see while sailing..
I did traditional dinning but did eat one night in PC with some people I meet on board. Food is the same and since I was with a group I really can't comment on the difference in service..they had a reserved table with the same waiter. Last winter we did PC on the Island. It is nice to not be locked into a dinner time but I missed the personal service of traditional dinning. We never meet up with enought people to suggest eatting as a group at dinner but did do lunch together on the lido on sea days.
Also got a group together for drinks from the rollcall link on this website..that was fun! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've sailed on both the Grand and the Star (earlier this year) and they're pretty much identical, except the interior is just slightly different (the Star's public layout is nicer along with the atrium had more details and wasn't as plain looking as on the Grand IMO). I don't know if the Grand has gone into refurbishment yet or not but it the interior might have changed since.
I didn't experience a huge different in each, the service and food was almost identical, however the itineraries were vastly different so the dining room menu on the Star was more intensive (because of the extra week).
On the Grand I was in the Caribbean and on the Star I was in Australia and New Zealand.
You can click on my name and then click on my previous posts to see info regarding the Star. I've had numerous posts on this ship.

We sailed on the Star last summer to Alaska and it was by far (3rd cruise) my favorite vacation ever. She was under 1 year old, so everything was new and the staff was excellent. The food was superb; we loved the shows too, especially the comedians. Another standout was the spa. Great services and the swim against the current pool with jacuzzis was usually empty. The gym that overlooks the bow of the ship was an incentive to work out regulary. Sabatinis was an exquisite meal, as was Sterling Steakhouse. Having a balcony room to see Alaska really makes it unforgettable, there is just so much to see from incredible wildlife (we saw seal pups, and their moms, bald eagles, orca and humpbacks on the same whale watching cruise and of course the glaciers, waterfalls, etc.) The trip to Haines (the worlds largest bald eagle population) from I believe Juneau was so incredible too. I loved Alaska so much that I am planning a family reunion cruise next summer entitled, "The Baker 5 in '05 in the 50th state, Alaska"

We recently (last week) returned from 12 days in Med and Greek Islands on Star. We were a bit nervous about size of ship as we previously had been on Dawn but everything was wonderful. Soon found our way round without the little map they give you.
We did anytime dining and had same table for 2 each evening with same waiters in Portifino restaurant. Food/service was excellent.
Wonderful vista suite D737 with an excellent room steward. I think he used to spy on us from a secret place as he was so unobtrusive but the room was always immaculate whenever we returned.
You'll have a great time. I'm dead envious.

We sailed on the Star last summer to Alaska. It was a great cruise. We booked our cruise on the Grand for last December while on the Star. We had previously been a couple of times on the Golden.
All three ships are pretty much the same, with just a few differences--like the location of the ping pong tables. The biggest difference we noticed, however, by going on the Grand after having been on the Star and the Golden was that the stairs midship did not go all the way up. That was a big disappointment for us, since we try to take the stairs instead of the elevators most of the time.

Are the children's facilities all the same on the grand class? I thought I had read the Star specifically has the largest children's area with more activities of the three?

Was on the Star on 3/03 in a mini-suite in the Mexican Riviera and though she was a spectacular ship, the most beautiful we've ever cruised on.
Very similar to the Grand.
You will love your cruise...enjoy!

We sailed the Star last October to the Mexican Riviera. We loved our mini-suite....lots of room to relax after a long day. We especially liked the larger bathroom. The ship has so many nooks and crannies, it never felt overly crowded to us. PC dining was the best since we prefer a more flexible schedule. We thoroughly enjoyed the art auctions and evening entertainment. The crew and staff were the best! Always greeted us with a smile. The Star is a beatiful ship and we had a fabulous time....so much so that we booked her again in November.....a back-to-back Caribbean.....Woohooo! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Cheers!

If you want to wade through our personal pics you will find many of the interior and exterior of the Star. We sailed in Feb from Sydney to Darwin and you would never know that the ship had been through an exhausting schedule between OZ and NZ for the past few months, it looked brand new and the crew were all very polite.

Nightone,
Thanks for the tip about the Travel Channel's show. We're booked on the Star for Jan.2 and can't wait! I may tape the show ... it seems like they hardly ever showcase Princess ships.
Somewhere I read a post about the spa/fitness area being better on this ship than on her sisters. Is there more equipment? Or were they referring to the spa area being better. The Golden only has 10 treadmills, making sign-up essential and sometimes not even possible. Does the Star have more treadmills or elypticals?

We have sailed on the Star twice, once in April 2003 and once in April 2002, when she was brand new. We loved her and would not hesitate to cruise on her again. We had minisuites on the Dolphin deck each time, roughly mid ship. We had traditional dining (late seating) but also ate at Sabatini's at least twice each cruise---we loved the service and the food. We did not like the Horizon Court. We loved the pizza. Both cruises were to the Mexican Riveria. We used the gym daily, had spa treatments, and enjoyed the entertainment. There were lots of great quiet nooks. The only negatives were the persistent photographers in the dining rooms who did not want to take "no" for an answer when we did not want our picture taken at a dirty table, and, as mentioned, we did not care for the Horizon Court. Getting on and off the ship was a breeze, service was top notch, and it was an overall great cruise experience. Have a wonderful time.
